New Castle is about 45 minutes from me. (Worthington PA ) Flyonawall - where are you?

I am about 30 miles from New Castle. We go through town fairly often. Have only visited the Public Records building in downtown for birth and death certificates and a couple of restaurants. "Sghetti's" an Italian eatery is right downtown. Better than average food. The other one that we go to regularly is on the north end of town is called "Tuscany Square Ristorante" It is also Italian. It is a destination eatery for us. Everything is very very good, but I have a particular fondness for their "Ruben Stromboli". both of these restaurants are low to moderately priced...no more or maybe a little less pricy than Olive Garden. Just north of town on the same road as Tuscany's, we always stop at the Apple Castle. Apples is the main business there (pick your own in season) with other fresh fruit in season too. Some seasonal veggies and jams, honey, cheeses etc. are always available. A nice variety of goodies to be had there.

I don't think of the town as any more crime ridden than any other place. Driving through, I notice that the main drag is cleaner than a lot of small towns. Downtown looks neat, like the business owners care. The other thing I notice is the over abundance of big drug stores. The hospital is small but handles everything but the most critical cases.

Barb, I'm in Beaver Falls. I haven't been to NC since probably the early 80's!! I see from their website that I sent ginger that they have renovated the downtown area. It really looks nice.
Ganania, do they still have that Coney Island Hot Dog place that they were famous for? I see the over abundance of big drug stores cropping up everywhere.
Ginger I got your email this morning and replied. I think I'd stay closer to PGH if your coming into that airport as there are lots of places to chose from and then maybe travel to NC. What do you other girls think? Although she could go site seeing in Lancaster County AMISH CO.

I really don't know about the Hot Dog place. There are the usual fast food places, and a Ponderosa, other than that, there isn't much in the way of big name chains, but several local places to eat. But if you are in the general area, be sure to go to Shakespears just south of Ellwood City which is just south of NC. The castle where the restaurant is and the grounds of the golf course that is connected to it will blow you away. Excellent food, moderately priced, at least the lunch menu is.

I am not aware of much in the way of the motel offerings in the area. There is a Days Inn east of NC, but it looks pretty run down. There is also a Comfort Inn on the East side on Route 422. Don't know anything about it, but it looks ok. If you go north towards Sharon, there will be several along the I 80 corridor, but that is probably 15 to 20 miles.

Yeah! I used to live in Ellwood City and that Shakespears is a nice place. My girlfriend had her wedding there.

Don't know where my brain was when I posted last, but there is a Ruby Tuesday and a new Bob Evans on the west side of town where routes 224 and 60 meet. A shopping plaza that includes a Walmart is there too.
