I am so excited. Its like where are my shades. Its getting brighter by the minute at my place.

Heres some photos of progress and things I have done since Friday.

kitchen island, I am jazzing it up with overlays and beadboard

Trying to figure out which Grey to paint the walls

subway backsplash I put in today, need to grout tommorrow

Cabinets are all being put back up by hubby- If only he had helped me paint.. LOL

Nice work - you have way more patience than I do!!

I read your other thread about the greys, too. I take it Storm is the middle one? I like it the most, too. And I think with the white cabs and the white subways, it won't be too grey. You don't have a lot of wall showing in the 'kitchen' part of the space. Is there a lot of wall on the other end of the space? It's the eat-in space I assume? Even so, I think you could easily lighten up that end with light table cloth, light prints on the walls, a mirror, etc.

Also, if you paint the bottom of the opening the same color as the cabinets, I think that will keep it lighter, too.

Though, I do also like the color closest to the cabinets!

let it really dry out. Unless it starts wilting, let it go to the weekend. Less water is better than more water. Believe me, I have waterlogged plants in pots here from the May-June continual rains, lots of yellow leaves, some really sad blossom end rot on my tomatoes (i.e. from the continual soaking in rainwater - interferes with calcium uptake which causes the fruit to rot when it's grown and almost ready to eat - very demoralizing) - you gotta get those plants dry and then keep them dry. Don't water unless you have to - unless their wilting etc. Then get them on a regular minimalist regimen of one good thorough watering once or maybe twice a week in the early morning. As a side note, I've been having a really tough time with serranos. Of the 15 or so varieties I'm growing, my two serranos are the least robust and seem to react the worst to the weird rainy, cold weather we've had this year.

This is a wonderful thread, and I'm taking notes. Thanks so much for starting it. I noticed that at least a couple of groupings by TheFoxesPad seem to have a centered picture that the eye rests on and that seems to act as an "organizing principle" for the entire wall. In those cases they're higher than typical, but then the groupings do go to the ceiling. Which reminds me of a grouping of pictures on Houzz--because of your desire to loosen it up a bit. I can't point you to the one, but it starts with a dominant, centered piece. This is symmetrically topped and flanked with pictures of matched sizes/visual weights (side matches side, top matches bottom). THEN, as the grouping moves out, it starts bringing in pictures of different sizes and weights and loses its symmetry (but I think not the overall distances between pictures). By the time it gets to the edges pictures are pretty loose, quite different sizes and shapes hung at different heights--and possibly slight different in some of the distances at the edges, but the feeling of the strong order in the center extends across the wall without being noticeable. It's all one. Like these great arrangements posted here.

That is so KEWL!!!! Its like a funky green amoeba...I love how you explained it all so well, especially with the green glass and how you made it thicker by using two pieces!!!! When I did my mosiaked chair recently I really should have taken off the seat and made a new one..it was layered like you said your wood was and I just couldnt see myself getting it reworked correctly!!! GREAT JOB!!!

I can't get any more of my granite. It was hard to find from the offset (Bros blue leathered), and there are no remnants left that will work. The white wall is just primed. I need something there, even if it's just paint. And in some I need something more than pain between my range and hood, even with the range's raised back. I was thinking it would be the same as behind the sink. So that would be two not three things. That said, I'm still working on something I don't hate. I mocked up a glass backslash for behind the sink. The photo shows cheap photo frame glass taped up. I can get an exactly measured piece online for $40-50. No seems. Not sure about local. Thoughts? I feel the need to reiterate, I don't know how to get a decent photo. The kitchen doesn't feel dark at all. I used fill flash, but I'm shooting into a brightly lit window.

Great job so far. I am in awe of all DIY'ers. My only comment, why do you want grey walls. Not sure what the grey relates to in the kitchen?

I love the work you've done so far! I'm like you - I like to go full throttle once I start something (DH is the opposite - makes things interesting). Looking forward to more pics later! :)

Wow! What a difference! It's looking fabulous.

I also like the middle grey the best of the ones you have up there. I'd love to see some darker samples too!
