Newbie-Painted Old Window

Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie and found this site two days ago. I am quite impressed with the "treasures" both found and made by members of this forum. I am also doubly impressed by the friendliness of the members in their posts. I hope you will welcome me also. I am attaching a pic of an old window that I decorative painted. Please comment. Do you think I could sell these?

Close up of Angel stakes..Don't know what they are made of... I did make my patriotic fence. You all inspired me and I have been Americana crazy the last few weeks...You can tell I don't know how to post pictures...lol. The bird house oblisk is a neighbors and was a gift from her Father- in- law. The outhouse is hers also. Trying to inspire my hubby to get on board.. :) If its not a deer, he's not interested.

Removing paint from old window screens

Hmmm, perhaps your screens are bronze that has aged to that beautiful dark blackish-green color of old bronze? If the screens are in fine condition why would you replace them, unless they are clogged with paint? If they are truly clogged I would just replace the screening, which is not hard to do, but does take some practice to get them really tight. Bronze screening is expensive (but worth it in my opinion because it gets to be such a nice dark color), but if you invested in a roll, that would lower the price some. You can find it on-line by googling, I'm sure. Have you tried just scrubbing the screens with a stiffish brush? It's remarkable how much gunk accumluates over time. Vaccuum first, then scrub briskly with lots of water. HTH MOlly

Paint over old Stained Woodwork and windows?

We live in a '70's Brick Ranch home that I have been improving on for several years now. I have just started trying to make a decision on the woodwork: Closet doors, windows, chair rail,etc. I have repainted most of the walls a navajo white. All woodwork is very dry,as it was stained in the 70's!! We have new wood floors(old pine tobacco barn boards, polyurethaned)to a semi-gloss finish. We love the natural, country feel: Any suggestions for paint colors for all the windows, chair-rail, and closet doors? Thanks :)

Welcome Lynn! Your window must look lovely sitting on your kitchen cabinet. Once day, I plan to paint another window to hang inside my home. This one (pictured)I will hang on the outside of my garden shed. I used a water based Polycrylic spray. The ladies on this site suggested "water based" protective finish because it doesn't have the tendency to turn yellow. You spray a couple of layers to seal the paint for outside. Wow~Sal~ that is gourd-e-us! I have some old windows I want to paint and you have inspired me to get to it. ha I was wondering how I was going to hang them as well so now that I see yours I can do that too! Thanks for posting!! ~Anj

Thank you for your wonderful comments. The window pane is almost 2 inches thick so the hook worked well. When hanging it, remember to find a wall stud. I was thinking of painting one with that "Gallery Glass" so it looked like a stained window, will let you know how it comes out. Hopefully I can post more pics of other things I've painted. Sal

Hello all, I also am new to the forum. I acquired a bunch of old windows and have done about 8 so far. I did a Red Hatters Faux Stained Glass, and many more. I would like to put them on and get your comments. Thanks

Crafter Cheryl: I have some pics on Photo Bucket also but haven't figured it out yet. Did you get the "Thank you for Registering Email" - there is a tutorial link in that email, at least I've read that much so far. I really need to get in gear here and get this done. Sal

If you have your pictures in Photobucket...copie the "tag" and paste it here on your preview it should show up. It it doesn't then you don't have to hit submit.
