I kept an article from years ago about cardboard furniture--It sounded interesting to me too.
But I never did make any!

When I was in college (many, many years ago) one of the art projects we did was making cardboard furniture. I made a table that I used as a nightstand for many years. I know I don't have a picture of it, but it was sturdy and withstood a lot of abuse. If I recall correctly, it was made with many layers of corrugated cardboard glued (laminated) together. It had an open front and a shelf, too.

I've seen pictures of chairs made with laminated corrugated cardboard that has been carved into a shape to fit a human (like an elongated 's' curve) that look really neat and are probably very comfortable.

As to getting started, just go for it. Draw out what you want to create and then try it. If it doesn't work, you haven't spent a whole lot of money and any successes or failures would just enhance your learning experience.

Good Luck!

Lasagna cardboard... 1 layer or 2

I think it depends on the thickness of the cardboard. If you are using say appliance boxes that are 1/4" thick, go with one layer. If you are using uncorrugated cardboard go with more. I don't think you can over do it. If you need more cardboard, stop at an appliance or furniture store. I grabbed over 60 refrigerator boxes for my beds. Could have had twice that many if I wanted! I did go double thick around the edges, since I did not use any edging material like bricks, or plastic edging etc.

Billylee, the "fruit juice/syrup" you use in your bins... if it is sugary I would think that would not be good for worms, but I have nothing to back up my gut reaction. As for hummersteve's mention of watermelon rinds, - oh, boy, any kind of squash (cooked or raw) or melon (actually any of the cucurbit family, including cucumbers) seems to be my herd's very favorite treat, judging by how quickly it disappears! The netted outer shell of cantaloupe is all that gets left behind in the bin from that fruit, and (thrifty [read:cheap!]) crafter that I am, I use those bits mixed in with my homemade paper for an interesting visual texture! Thick cardboard tubes?

You could glue wrapping paper (or scrapbook paper) to the big ones, using watered down white glue like elmers, or mod podge. maybe one paper on the outside and a contrasting on the inside. Or fabric might be nicer. Again you can use white glue or modpodge on fabric too. I'm not sure how to hang them on the wall. Could you stack them and hold them together with nuts and bolts? Offset, that is allowing the second row to go slightly between the first maybe? The smaller ones, I'm not sure. They may be strong enough to use as occassional table legs. Or legs for cardboard stools. You could google cardboard furniture for ideas. If you cut them down to say 6 inches you could tie a group of them together and use for storage of markers and paint brushes. Hmm. Be sure to let us know what you do. And post pics if you can. Kathy I'd like to think they have some use!

Cardboard about to come off_ how do I protect Tigerwood floors?

pcjs, Too funny_ but kinda sad too cuz it's actually closer to the truth than I care to admit. My original vision , or 'the sweeby test', was to have my home comfortable enough to walk in off the deck and the hot tub, and not have to worry. But, of course, then I got the Tigerwood, cuz no other hardwood 'spoke' to me like it did, and I am sort of feeling like a mother hen. But then I haven't really lived with it yet, so it may not take long, before I let the little chicks leave the coop! And I really don't want big gouges or scrapes in my floor. Just wondering what others have used and found effective. I actually saw a package of felt pads and I think the silicone ones too at Office Depot for those that are looking. Flooring and molding supply places carry them too.
