Should BM and I meet-Advice Needed

My BF and I have been together for a few months (8 months tomorrow) and things are pretty serious at this stage. He has mentioned before that he wanted BM and I to meet. Now on my previous post I did mention that BM and I did bump into each other before (once in the mall when she acted very weird and 2nd when she followed me at the university). Both times was not ideal, BM was a bit confrontational the second time. I am going to start spending more time with my BF daughter, I really want to get to know her better. And I am a decent person, I want BM to meet me (officially), look maybe I am just being optimistic here but perhaps if she saw that I wasn't some psycho she wouldn't put up such a fuss when I spend time with her daughter.

Any thoughts on this? If we do meet should BF be there or would a one on one be better?

Her behavior seems a little weird (stalking?) -- but then, I can see how she'd be curious...
Are you and your BF engaged? Talking about it? Moving in together?
And how did her relationship with your BF end? Did they agree to split? Or does she want him back?

I think meeting her is a good idea -- In a well-lit public place, of course ;-)
If there's any chance she wants him back, I'd meet without him. Competition for a guy often seems to mess up the female-female dynamic.
Maybe meet in a coffee shop, and arrange to have one of your girlfriends drop by after 15-30 minutes to make sure you're OK and drag you off to something urgent if needed.

I agree that you should meet *at some point.* And like sweeby says, it depends on what your relationship with your BF is like, and it also depends on what the dynamics of their breakup/co-parenting relationship are like.

Take it from someone who's DH is a total wuss, though, and who met BM the WRONG way. We had been dating for about 4-5 months and I had kind of mentioned a few times to DH (BF at time) that maybe I should just be in the car sometime when he picked SS up, so that BM and I could meet in a very low-key manner.

He was *afraid* to do that because he said she would be really jealous/angry that we were getting serious.

The first time I met BM it was about 6 months into my relationship with him. We were at his house, it was mid-summer, and we were in the backyard with the kids, grilling out and just enjoying the evening. The gate to his yard opened up and BM stormed in! I about fell out of my chair!

She had been drinking (WOW, how things have changed! HA) and while she wasn't drunk, she was def. buzzed. And she was angry at DH for having his son around me without her meeting me, and she was just angry in general that we were together. She did NOT like seeing us do "family" type activities with the kids.

Anyway, DH escorted her out front to her car and I remember they got into a heated discussion. BM left angry.

THAT was my first meeting with her. Sad to say, things have not much improved now, 5+ years later.'

SO--looking back--I would do things differently. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference. BUT I think if you can meet BM on good terms and get that relationship (b/c you WILL have to have some sort of repoire with her) off to a good start, then go for it.

The bias is there of course, the title alone firstwives...etc..etc.. Its was good all in all and going slow as advice is good as well. I did alot of what this person said. Made sure i 'ld work on weekends when he picked up his kids so they can have alone time for the majority of the day and then in the late afternoon and night i would come home. There were times when the eldest, sd, would ask for them to go to the park , just the three of them...and my husband would get insulted..and i would tell hiim , no go alone with them..i dont mind, i'll get started early on lunch or dinner etec..etc.. (my weekend work was not always full days) and there were times i just wanted to be alone as well...so i would tune out, close the bedroom door and listen to my music...and sd would get offended until my dh said to her we all need alone time...just liek when you asked me to go to the park without her. She put her head down and i told her don't feel sad. We all need different times...its not that i dont want you in my life, i just want my time. just like you wanted you time with your dad... So...the relationship with my skids is not a bad one at all...bm on the other hand is non existant. SHe throws away homework if she finds out i 've helped them...now they do not bring any home anymore here..its been well over a year ...i guess they do it on a sunday night...but that is not my fault...thats' bm andit on her shoulders. Besides..after seeing the type of person she is and what she says to her kids, i really do not want contact with this person..i know she loves her kids but i want nothign to do with her...SHe's negative, lying, manipulative..i can go on...But any human who is like that is poison! and i want nothign to do withthem. Good luck to the kids for haivng such a mother...they are starting ot realize what she is..thank God they have their friends and grandparents up there.

She didn't take them when she left. Many excuses why she didn't take them. here's a few ... bf doesn't like kids, Dad was their fulltime caregiver. his family's home, she didn't have any place to go. didn't want to break up the children (oldest is not hers). She has told the kids daddy brided the judge thats why you can't live with me. We have issues with PAS from a NCP. I wouldn't want to cut her out completely. She doesn't have any diagnosed reason not to be with her children. Joint custody would freak her out more than no visitation at all. She would pretend to be pissed about not seeing them but underneath it would be easier for her to walk away. Hubby feels eventually she will just go away. As long as she stops bad mouthing us to the kids I don't care how much time she spends with them or doesn't spend with them as the case may be. CS is attached to her paycheck so I am assuming it will come out of her unemployment check as well. She called today said she was thinking of picking up a part time job saturday and sunday 12-5 I said well you can find someone to watch them on saturday from 12-5 and bring them home for noon on sunday... but I wanted to pick them up sundays at 5 ... you can either pick them up at noon sunday or drop them off at noon not 5. lets not schedule anything till you get the job. What if you don't get a job for 3 months ... The only change I am willing to make is wed fri eo sat or tues fri eo sat. I'll talk to you later its dinner time.

I like them, but I'm not sure if I love them.... @ :Having green in my kitchen was my sister's idea, and it took a little time to be okay with the thought until I saw the glass green tile. Still, I've had reservations. Do I wear green? Not so much. FYI, if it says anything, I have dark espresso hardwood floors; Coir color walls in living room; bathrooms with ivory travertine floors and walls and espresso shaker style cabinets and caesarstone countertops (Behr brand, I think; khaki/tan with a green tone); and pottery barn looking bedrooms for the kids and my husband and me. ~ Below are some better photos. morpheouspa. Gloves down here for a moment. What claims are you referring to that I have made about mechanical aeration? Granted, I do claim that there are purposes for which the employment of mechanical aeration can be useful and it irritates me to no end that people peremptorily discount mechanical aeration as being without any use. (in the past couple of months, I've seen were you have suggested? that plug aeration might be an aid in pursuing some outcome.) Are you saying that I have advocated mechanical aeration as a necessary continued lawn care practice? (Do you advocate the application of a surfactant as a necessary continuing lawn care practice?) Is it necessary to spam this site with links to hundreds of university turf programs that recommend home owner lawn aeration not only as a continuing lawn care practice, but for the prevention of disease, thatch LDS etc.? For what purpose? They are just conclusory statements, No more valid than anything you or anyone else can produce. What you linked to, rather than belittle you, look at the facts: First some of what they call aeration is plowing (bad for me) but anyway I counted 13 studies and of those, the majority showed some improvement to crop yield, none showed a decline. They do,make a conclusory statement that aeration will cause increased weeds. OK fine. Based on what? No ancillary evidence even? Did they atleast credit dchall for the quote or maybe daniel? So even though your site actually supports that aeration results in slightly greater % crop production than non aeration, I say irrelevant and useless for any support for either of us. This argument has been going on forever, but if you take the time to understand and observe, there are logical conclusions you can come to and when applied either work or don't. If X then Y, put it to the test, and if it repeats, then continue, whether it is surfacants, aeration, corn meal or Bayer. So recommend on your experience and give your rational when challenged. Caveat emptor. My goal for my lawn, and for those I give advice to, is to obtain a turf that in the shortest time possible will only require mowing, watering and fertilization. I endeavor to employ the least expensive, least labor intensive, but most effective methods for a healthy turf AND soil and those are the ones I promote. My questions were for the reader and therefor need no response from you . I will no longer joust this windmill with you or anyone else, but I will call out anyone who "make [an unsupportable} claim... or [spew} any other blatant lie"

I actually met BM long before DH and I were dating.
BM and DH had long since broken up, but she called DH and his then-GF last minute on NYE because her plans got canceled and asked to hang out with them. So she came to the party at MY house and was rather rude to me.
When I met her again after DH and I were dating, she was rather rude again and had no recollection of meeting me or being in my home.

But I think the best way is just at a pick-up of drop-off. Casual and matter-of-fact.

My X's exgirlfiend of 10 years (whom he met after about 7 years after our divorce) was nice to DD but rude to everyone else including me. She is known in the area where they live for rudeness. Was always resonably nice to DD though, but kind of hands off.

i have met X's current wife shortly after they got serious. even though i don't condone X leaving his long term GF for another woman and marrying her, I can kind of see why now. DD's SM is nice to people. And we get along well.

I don't think though you should meet just two of you. I think your BF should introduce you to BM. Don't do it without him. my X introduced me. i would not go and meet these women by myself. uncomfortable. now when i know SM i can meet just me and her but not the first time.

I have no interest in knowing my SO's X, plus his kids are grown.

I don't know if this is the best advice, but my situation is similar to yours and I've chosen not to meet or be around my mate's ex. I think it would only give her more ammo in some ways if she knew me better. She'd find something to pick on so I just keep a low profile. Again, it probably doesn't sound like the mature, adult thing to do, but the BM I'm dealing with is a nut-job so I think I made the best choice. However, if it's important to your boyfriend that you meet her, I would do it for him.
