I would like a built in screen to use with compost or worm castings. I would put a container underneath to capture the sifted material. This should easily lift out for cleaning. That would be on one end. On the other end of a long table, I would want a sink with a sprayer. I would also want a shelf above the main work area with cup hooks for having my tools within easy reach. I would not include garden tools as that is a very personal thing, everybody has their own favorites. I think the power strip is an awesome idea. Now, my creative juices are running but too bad I have far too many things to do this year.

Full disclosure. The legs and shelf were not made from pallets. Those are scrap pieces of wood we either already had or picked up at H.D. store in their scrap pile. If you guys haven't discovered the scrap wood bin, you are missing something. It is usually in the back of the store. They routinely sell nice odd-sized boards for $0.50. We used 2 on this project, so I technically spent $1 :) About the quality of the pallets. There are definitely some out there that are nicer than others. Just be patient and be picky.

I love my new potting bench! It's now complete with planted flowers. The backside I added a flower box and planted it with purple salvia and a ferny houseplant...can't wait until they flower...also added a bright cobalt blue glass vase (upside down) inspired by you glass/mosiac people! Also put up a bracket on the edge of the door and hung a wire basket planted with purple wave petunias...they should be awesome when they grow. We've had some warm weather here the last couple days! The bench sits over a big half rotten stump. On the table top is a pot of pansies. Later on I plan on laying flagstone in front of the bench and, hopefully, lead the path to my ol' garden shed. This has been a fun project and I can't believe how much I've used it already and kept the dirt off my patio table & chairs now! Jeanne S.

Yeah. It should hold up to the elements well and the grid shelving lets detritus fall through. The tubes are solar lights so I can work in the evening too. I don't do a lot of potting in the dark but I had them so I put them on the bench and I live in SoCal where you don't necessarily want to be outside working on some days. ;> Thanks for all the kind words!
