Cool, I'm in need of a potting bench, and have been looking around for something to make one out of, so that gives me another option (-: I also saw one made out of an old dresser, put it up against the side of a shed/house and you can make some more shelves above the dresser, add nails to hang tools. I have just the place for it, now all I need is either a dresser or an old disgarded grill. Kendal

On nov 5 2005 I copied and pasted a grill potting bench on a document. That is what I do to keep pics to inspire me. I did not put an acknowledgement. I did not keep a jpg. I can describe it. Maybe I can link it here if anyone knows how. It is like the black one but it kept the covered grill part...which is painted blue. There is a yellow sign on it that says "Pot It Up". rest painted black. There is a yellow mailbox on the left (wood slate removed)that says Potting Tools. The wire rack was left on the bottom. There are covered buckets below that probably hold dirt and such. One Yellow and one white. the four slate on the right are painted black and it looks like there are hook screwed into the bottom of the support to maybe hold tools. the building it is in front of is a blueish white? and is in board and batten style (wide boards with the little firing type strips on the seams) There are tree trunks put in behind it as a garden border? Maybe I will email it to you. Sorry I can not post but maybe the description will jiggle a memory and they will repost.

I don't have pics of mine... but I can tell you about it. Mine was an old black grill, with redwood shelves on each side, and a redwood shelf on the bottom between the wheels. I removed the lid and all of the "working" parts. I planted the grill with taller salvias in the back, fushia in the middle and ivy geraniums in the front. I put sprengri (sp?) fern between the other plants, to give it a "fluffy" appearance... as well as both light green and purple sweet potato vine trailing out from all over. I put a concrete bunny peeking out from between the salvia. I placed matching pots of and cherry bells on either side on the redwood shelves. I set a galvanized watering can on the bottom shelf - for convenience sake. It looked GREAT! One thing I did find that it did NOT do well in direct Alabama sun. The black metal heated up during the day... It did much better when I moved it into an area that got morning sun - but afternoon shade...

Dee, I like your idea of putting all the small tools in a five gallon bucket and bringing it with you. I think I am going to try my version of that with a two wheeler and a small beach umbrella. I like bringing shade with me and having a two wheeler to move something if I need it. I also have a way of using the 5 gallon bucket as a work surface while sitting on a riding seat. I had fun putting the whole thing together too. Had lots of places to put things like my water bottle, etc. I did that two summers ago and I forget what happened that I didn't last year. I could move into one of those sheds tomorrow too Dee. Might make a nice get away, right in the backyard. Bring out a cooler and a comfortable chair, a few gardening magazines...make a day of it. :-) Linda, the umbrella is a nice idea when you have to use a space that is too sunny and it helps when it rains to keep things dry if you haven't got any cover. I also made a decision to try using the garage for one season and clear out an area that would be the same size as a small shed and see how it works before I commit to having a shed. sooey, you sound pretty organized to me! pm2
