table refinish??

How can I refinish the old table? It is formica I think. How would you do it? Sand it primer first? What kind of paint?

I had a similar dilemma! I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and it was awesome. I decided to stain the top just to give it a different look. But the ASCP is perfect because you don't have to prime!

Sand it, use good quality wood cleaner/brightener combo, that will remove all that stuff and apply good quality stain.

Absolutely a cool table! I think, unless it is a valuable antique, that the chalk paint idea sounds good. "Almost" matching wood tones may look odd. Also depends on where you plan to use it, though - the chalk paint would be a much less formal look.

I refinished an old Fisher Price picnic table. Spray painted with Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2x Ultracover Paint + Primer. Should I put a finish over the top to help protect this outdoors? If so, please keep in mind this is for children and I do not plan to use harsh chemicals.

Your picture did not post. I stripped, sanded and refinished my oak harvest table last year. Although I am happy with the result, it was a much much bigger job than I thought it would be. More expensive in terms of materials, took a lot longer, and very challenging to get the colour and finish right. I don't recommend it. I think there are ways to fix a scratch that don't involve refinishing the whole table. There are companies like Furniture Medic that can do something like this.

Use "Bin" primer on laminate.. it works great. I refinished a Maple bedroom set that was mine growing up. It all had laminate top, the nightstand, dresser and chest of drawers..... I painted all the furniture a cream color and this was 7 years ago, the top still looks perfect.. Bin is great stuff....
