Here are some pics of the beading on the wedding dress I was bidding on.. I thought that this beading would be easy to remove and use else where.. but I forgot about the bidding ending last night and I lost it by $1.00 duh.....kicking myself in the butt.. it went for $16.00 and the dress had a lot of beads and pearls on it.. front and back , sleeves, and train..darn.. oh well

It was lovely!! That's what happens when you "have"to go to bed & get some sleep!!LOL I imagine you check TS's for them,check the sweaters & vests also as some have lots of beads. Watch your newspaper for "free" gown too! Jan

I used a wedding dress to make gowns for the angels I make at Christmas time. I looked at it a long time before I could make myself cut it up ! But it is great for the angels !It was mostly a heavy satin with lots of beads sewn on.

Just checking back in here. You've been busy. I love the RL dress on you too. I suspect the other is also really flattering, but that the overexposure of the lighting on the pic and maybe the pic angle makes it not as enticing as the RL. Either one would be perfect. Are you in the mood for silvery/pewter shoes? I just bought these at Dillards (amazing selection I'll add) to wear this weekend as stepmom of Bride. They are comfy enough for me to wear and still act as hostess at this wedding. By J Renee and pretty affordable. I'm a lot taller than you, but have the same figure issues, ie shapely ample tush and bustline. For this "black tie optional" wedding all the bridesmaids will be in long dresses as will I. I ended up buying a dress in the salon the day we went wedding dress shopping, at Sweet Elegance in Atlanta where they were absolutely wonderful. And I went with a mock wrap - silver, beaded. Still haven't decided on jewelry. sigh. Wedding is in three days. (why do they picture a 20-something in a dress meant for MOB?) I made my dresses for my two sons weddings, but making it this time was going to be a logistical nightmare. Have a wonderful time at your barn wedding.

our daughter was baptized catholic later,when she was 13 and i had a cute infant style gown made for her from my wedding dress.it had boufant shoulders and lace and bows on the front and one big bow at the waist in back.the gown was knee length and i did a crinoline under it to make it poofy.i also had a bonnet made for her with the remaining material that matched her gown.she wore lace anklets and white slippers.to make her even cuter,i got a pair white rubber pants off a website in teen size and had ruffles sewn across the back of them.they looked adorable on her under the dress and she was so precious and innocent in her outfit on her baptism day.when she made her first communion at 14,i did the ruffled rubber pants under her communion dress,

I heard on tv somewhere that her dress was silk cotton lace - that sounds soft and lovely to me. I can't get enough of the pictures of the entire wedding party and guests LOL, not sure why it has such a fascination to me. I also remember being entranced with Diana at her wedding and afterwards when her babies were born, I just never got tired of seeing them. I also fondly remember following Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Eisenhower when they were married, and I even took a day off from work to watch Tara and Phillip get married on All My Children (that was pre-vcr recording days)! I'm sure when I put my mind to it I'll remember some more weddings that fascinated me. Oh right, Jenna Bush Hager just popped into my head. And Katie Couric's second wedding looked lovely! I guess I could keep going!

Thanks Jan, I really did not need the wedding dress, it just happened to be on my on line auction and I thought it would be great to get at a good price and just take the beading off as it looked like the beading was on a backing and could be taken off easy. I do not want one that has the beading all sewn on seperate.. whew, that would be a job. Beading and pearls bought in the store on a backing are expensive.. so I thought with all this beading it would be a good buy.. I will watch the TS and GW ...

What an interesting idea -- using 'old' wedding dresses as a source for fabric and beading! I could imagine making some lovely small throw pillows, maybe decorating a plain lamp shade, what else?

Sorry you missed out on the auction. Better luck next time. My daughter has used some GW wedding dresses for various projects. She has removed some nice beaded pieces and has put them on other clothing, made a beaded cumberbund, a headband and put some on purses. She even dyed some and the material in the beads must have been just right because it took the dye and was very pretty. She also used the satin, beads and lace from a GW wedding dress to make a ring bearer's pillows for a couple of her friends. Wish I had pics to share. (Her daughters...9 and 11...love putting on the dresses and swishing around the house in them before Mom cuts them up.)
