Oh, thank you, Janet! I do have cats--two. but they are "house-cats" only! I use to have cats that came and went during the day, but I would worry, so much, if they didn't show up by "bedtime" and we do live in a plat with busy roads nearby! I decided, I prefer to know "where they are" at all times! One of them two, is a "Ragdoll" breed that knows no enemies so would not know to defend itself against an aggressive dog! Our Lab and these two cats think they are "kin" and play together like you wouldn't believe!! I have seen a cat "lurking" in and out of our place, but I'd eventually wind up "taking it in" if it came too often, and I do not need another indoor cat!! I also love my squirrels and chips and birds so I do not welcome a "hunter-cat" for those reasons!! Too bad they can't be trained to be "prey-specific"! LOL janice

Chelone, your mom did good by you. Mine knew nothing of antiques and wouldn't have knowingly bought one if she did. She grew up on a farm in Georgia during the 1920's and they cut the posts off their old 4-poster beds to help them look modern. But she did haunt the local auction almost every Saturday, and it was not only a livestock auction, but also a huge flea market. You know, the kind of flea market that a flea market used to be.......Big tables rented to sellers by the day, where you could buy toys, clothes, shoes, furniture, antiques, and car parts. Nothing brand new, just other people's stuff. We dressed from the Auction, furnished our house from the Auction, and bought our fresh produce from the Auction. The Auction still functions around here, but now it's full of the cheap junk from China and Mexico that you see everywhere. Not too many of the old time dealers around these days. But while I was even then, at 7 or 8, looking longingly at antique beds and dressers and chairs, while my Momma was buying toys and shoes and dishes, she did teach me a lot about bargaining, negotiating, and carrying small bills at all times. She kept her mind open to possibilities and she knew that if a deal was good, the time to offer cash was Right Now. She always said that if she left a row of tables and wandered down another row, by the time she got back to something she was thinking about, it would be gone. She moved back to Georgia many years ago and she's still a force to be reckoned with, but her memories of all those times is growing very dim with age. And Oceanna, I must have been typing my 5000 word post, because I missed your lovely red mohair sofa. Beautiful. And I was thinking about you the other day, wondering if you had found the right fabric yet for your vintage chaise lounge? Did you buy something yet? I'm going to vote for a textured chenille, maybe something along the lines of the fabric I made my drapes out of in the "Show me your drapes" thread... Red

Amazing! Just look at how well organized, displayed, and clean it all is! If I'm reading the date of the story correctly, Mr. Molina would have retired in mid 2015. I hope he still has access to tend to his wonderful collection. It does seem a shame that it's all there, but can't be viewed by the public. I can imagine a lot of people would appreciate all of those "trashy" treasures.

Curious. I don't think our World Books had those. Do you have one or more "yearbooks" that they published? Do you know how old your set is? Ours was a 1927 set and we were kids of the 1950s to 1970s. It was interesting to see, though, that some of the articles were unchanged from 1927 to --say-- the 1970 edition which we could look at in the school library. I remember the article on "Rainbow" was unchanged, except that it now had some color illustrations. But the '27 edition was no good if we needed to look up something about WWII, NASA and space exploration, Hawaii and Alaska as states, laser, suburbanization, Cold War, most of the presidents of the 20th century, etc. The Britannica was old, but not nearly so and had much longer, deeper discussion about everything. Britannica's article authors were identified, so not committee written. Ha, I remember we also had an old set of Funk & Wagnalls. Remember those? Our very old ones were kind of weird, filled with some rather archaic styles of writing. By the 1960s, F&W had become a lot like World Book. Our household did not have enough books; that is probably why I so clearly remember the encyclopedias. There was not much else around to read, (newspapers, cereal boxes, magazines --yes!) especially in summer without the school library, so we read the encylopedias. Oh, glory--- when the county finally opened a little library a couple miles away!
