what would you use these for?

I have 2 wooden laundry baskets and I really like them but not sure what to do with them. I don't need them for laundry!

I would use them in the fall when I go to the orchard to pick apples - it is a bushel fruit basket. They also look great with a huge pot of mums in them in the fall.

Oh, I forgot to mention I used to go out to Pearblossum & get peaches & pears to can & I could pick them out of those baskets- they really are made for carrying fresh fruit in from fields & displaying it. The market out there had about 50 of them lined up with all kinds of apples, peaches greenish pears, some softer fruit was in lugs which were wooden at the time. They had a year around Christmas store out there in the desert & so I always had to stop there for a bit, but I liked to get fruit ready to use(usually marked down too) so would go home the 60 miles & then can fruit until all of 1 kind were in jars & finish up the following day. The faucet is 3 holes. A standard placement. Mine is from HD, but same as Lowes and is brushed stainless. Sink must be deep as I have no problem washing hands or anything else. The sink is a square pedestal. Am not terribly fond of the sink, no place to hang a wet washcloth and feel the space underneath is wasted. I've considered building a cupboard for this, just a surround with the sink as the top. The bath is so small that I know this would make things feel cramped. Hmm, just thought, a curtain around it would give me some storage. I'm fairly simple in decorating, so a curtain needs some thinking. Still have the wet washcloth problem though. Love the sound of the water flowing from the faucet, even seeing it...silly things we attach ourselves to.

I like the larger wooden finials as the feet. Something on wheels means I'll probably kick it by accident and it'll go flying across the room. :) But it is a great idea if you want to move it out of the way when not in use! I'm curious as to what they look like before I give any more ideas. :) Are they solid, woven sides like Martha's, or are they more like your standard laundry basket with the holes all around to where things inside are visible? Are they pretty sturdy, or are they like that thinner wood? I'm thinking they are more sturdy because they're older. They made things better back then! ;) Alicia

They have "peel and stick" hooks that hold a surprising amount of weight. I would use them. But be aware that you will be polishing them every 3 months if you hang them very near the kitchen. Linda c

Thanks for ALL of your opinions!! I remember that the way my top was made, the bottom has wood supports. The person who made it is an engineer by trade, and a woodworker as a hobby. He showed me the underside and it seems to be a work of art. He explained how it is all fitted together the old fashioned way. I can't remember exactly what he said, but I think it is made very well. He spoke about how it will be less likely to warp or crack - at all. SO- I think only the supported part of it would get some silicone caulking - just as a finishing touch. I know he plans on screwing it down also. Do you think it can be stable and fine without ANY calk at all? Thanks so much!
