It's about darn time!

After ten long cycles of trying, DH and I are happy to be expecting a baby in October!

I'm almost 15 weeks now, and we heard the heartbeat for the first time last week. I recorded it on my phone, which my midwife thought was really funny and smart.

Yay!

Gandle, are you taking a cholesteral medicine? My f-i-l started getting weak as a kitten, couldn't hold his head up and it turned out to be a reaction to his Zorcor (sp) chlolesteral medicine. Sometimes it can cause a deterioartion of the muscles. Has some long name Rhebomyalyscin (sp). This weas first diagnosed during the London Blitz. It can happen when you have had lots of physical stress like bombings or eathquakres, or reaction to medicine (legal or illegal) or if you have been a heavy drinker. Once they got him off the medicine and started a drip line he has been getting his strengh back. He had been on it 2 years with no adverse affects until this spring.

Lilo.......if I could figure a cheap way to ship it, I'd gladly share my chickeypoo with you. My cup runneth over. We have our.....uhm.....unusual festivals too. There isn't any way around it, when you spray something to kill something, you're going to kill something else. Pyrethrins aren't any less toxic to bees and is likely more so to other beneficials than Spinosad. For me, the Spinosad makes more sense because I have less slug and far more leaf miner to deal with. And, I just like the idea of it being bacterial than chemical. According to Oregon State University, pyrethrins are toxic to honey bees. If you were to spray at dusk when bee activity is less, you'll probably affect fewer of them, mostly those who try to spend the night in your rose flowers. They're the culprits for my bee stings. They always happen when deadheading and it's always due to my grabbing the bloom to be cut and awakening the sleeping bee. Oregon State says: Pyrethrins are highly toxic to fish and tadpoles. They affect their skin touch receptors and balance organs (4). Ã¯Â¿Â½ Pyrethrins are toxic to beneficial insect (such as honeybees) and many aquatic invertebrates (4). Ã¯Â¿Â½ Pyrethrins are low in toxicity to humans, other mammals, and birds (4). I can commiserate with you. That's why I use the timer on a rope that Peppi gave me. While at my brother's last week, I picked the sweetest oranges I've ever had with the intention of making marmalade. I prepared to make a double batch. I peeled, diced, and slivered last night, boiled the requisite 5 minutes and 18 hours of rest. Today I purchased canning supplies then boiled another hour, added 8 cups of sugar (they were so sweet already so I cut back on the sugar). Well, just before putting them in the jars, I got a phone call from the insurance agent saying that they were pulling out of Florida. While letting loose on the agent, the marmalade burnt. I started pulling out the blacked pieces but the taste was permeated through the marmalade. Not to mention the mess on the stove.

Sylvia, I don't have any real leanings on gender and we don't plan to find out at our 20 week ultrasound.
I have a *very* slight preference for a girl, so I work on the assumption that Baby is a boy.
DH has a *very* slight preference for a boy, so he works on the assumption that Baby is a girl.
But as long as it's one gender or the other, then I will be happy!

WooHoo! Congratulations Ceph!

How's big brother feeling about it?
I know for my son, making a big deal about him being the big brother really helped him not feel jealous. We even put older son's picture in the hospital crib with little brother "so he could see it all the time".

I am sooooo happy for you both. You are such a level headed, caring SM, I know you will continue to be that AND an amazing BM. All my best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy.

SS isn't terribly excited about it, but he is not unhappy either. He's kind of in a neutral camp.

Remember how BM has an almost-one-year-old? SS knows what babies are actually about, and knows that it doesn't interest him, LOL.
So he's happy, but doesn't have the same misconceptions about how AWESOME having a baby around is as he had when his mom was pregnant. Which I'm oddly glad about - it won't be our baby that disillusioned him :)
