It's about darn time!

After ten long cycles of trying, DH and I are happy to be expecting a baby in October!

I'm almost 15 weeks now, and we heard the heartbeat for the first time last week. I recorded it on my phone, which my midwife thought was really funny and smart.

Yay!

Such gorgeous pics, Carla! Casablanca is striking, I might have to add that one to my bulb garden. I really liked the first dahlia pic- that form is very attractive. I don't have any dahlias because they have to be dug up here. And Karen- I love your cutting garden - your yard must be a real work of art. I love bulbs- lilies, amaryllis, daffodils, and spiderwort come to mind. (I planted a frittilaria- Crown Imperial_ but I never saw a sign of it this summer.) I have had to give up on daffodils until I get an area specially fixed for them- the soil just doesn't support them here, even though I was burying them in wire cages to keep the voles away. No problems w/ squirrels or rabbits in the yard, though- too many cats to have to worry about that. They even get a mole or a vole once in awhile, but not enough to safely plant daffodils. thanks for sharing your pics. Brandy

Actually, this is the strangest dend in that it is the most tolerant of all my orchids of low light! Even more so than my phals!! I know, everyone says 'Dends need very high light!', but I think that dend-phals must need less, because this thing is insane. . . not that I mind, of course. =) The colours are actually the best they have ever been at this flowering. I have noticed that higher light really makes a difference in this. My phal that is currently blooming was outside this summer, and it's amazing! The colour is way better than the last time it flowered (two years ago; I'm still learning). The first time it bloomed I thought it was just evenly deep pink, but now it has a darker lip! Oh, I have a pic of it. Here it is: There would have been two more buds/flowers between the current blooms and the top bud, but my baby got ahold of it when I wasn't looking and broke them off! I was not impressed. . . but there isn't anything that can be done now! There's always next year. . . And I am now totally sold on keeping orchids outside in the summer!

I can commiserate with you. That's why I use the timer on a rope that Peppi gave me. While at my brother's last week, I picked the sweetest oranges I've ever had with the intention of making marmalade. I prepared to make a double batch. I peeled, diced, and slivered last night, boiled the requisite 5 minutes and 18 hours of rest. Today I purchased canning supplies then boiled another hour, added 8 cups of sugar (they were so sweet already so I cut back on the sugar). Well, just before putting them in the jars, I got a phone call from the insurance agent saying that they were pulling out of Florida. While letting loose on the agent, the marmalade burnt. I started pulling out the blacked pieces but the taste was permeated through the marmalade. Not to mention the mess on the stove.

Sylvia, I don't have any real leanings on gender and we don't plan to find out at our 20 week ultrasound.
I have a *very* slight preference for a girl, so I work on the assumption that Baby is a boy.
DH has a *very* slight preference for a boy, so he works on the assumption that Baby is a girl.
But as long as it's one gender or the other, then I will be happy!

How's big brother feeling about it?
I know for my son, making a big deal about him being the big brother really helped him not feel jealous. We even put older son's picture in the hospital crib with little brother "so he could see it all the time".

I am sooooo happy for you both. You are such a level headed, caring SM, I know you will continue to be that AND an amazing BM. All my best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy.

SS isn't terribly excited about it, but he is not unhappy either. He's kind of in a neutral camp.

Remember how BM has an almost-one-year-old? SS knows what babies are actually about, and knows that it doesn't interest him, LOL.
So he's happy, but doesn't have the same misconceptions about how AWESOME having a baby around is as he had when his mom was pregnant. Which I'm oddly glad about - it won't be our baby that disillusioned him :)
