So bwahahahahhahahaha

Decided to try to antique my blinding white cabinets today.

Ummmmmmmmm

Ummmmmmmmmmm

Either Iam awful at it. Or I read and now many of your words stuck in my head.

Glazing can look dirty, glazing makes me want to be at someones house and try to get the dirt off their white cabinets, glazing in crevices just makes the cabinets look like they need to be scrubbed.

These our words I have read on GW

But I said what the heck..so many have so many beautiful glazed cabinets. So I admit it's probably my non talented glazing self

I did it to the island cabinets.

Stood back and thought..oh my goish- they look so dirty now...

A couple hours later I walked by the island and thought. Let me wipe that dirt off- oh yeah I can't it's glaze..bawahahhaahhaha..see now iam about to pull out the white paint and you all know what I am doing..

Hugs to you all. At least I tried it.

Or I will bring in the professional blazers maybe one day in the future. Cause all I did was make them dirty.

Lmao! You remind me of some of the kids I've known.. "Don't touch the stove it's hot.. DO NOT touch the stove, it's HOT.. HOTTTTTTTTTTT...Hmmm.. maybe we need some polysporin for that burn?" LOL.. Not laughing at you so much as being glad there is someone else out there that just HAS to follow their own path!

Just stand back once you call in the "blazers"..that fire can be hot! Have to agree with you on the "dirty" effect though.. walking through showrooms, all I want to do is find my rag and wash down the cabinets.. oh wait.. it's SUPPOSED to look like that!

At least you tried it!! You probably wouldn't be happy if you hadn't attempted the look and would still be going through the should I/ should I not stage. At least you have a remedy. As they say "nothing ventured, nothing gained." Good luck with the white paint. Keep us posted.

Looks like this thread motivated a lot of people! I've had the bake stone that came with our Wolf DF range sitting in a box for nearly a year. After reading about Trailrunner's pizza party and various other pizza successes on GW, I figured what the heck, it was time to dig out that bake stone. Used the link to "A Pizza Primer" on the Fresh Loaf site. Made two pies that were very good (froze the remaining two dough balls for our next attempt) but would like to improve the crust next time (need it thinner and crisper)as well as getting the dough to the stone more easily. Couple of questions for those who use their bake stone frequently. First, we had some trouble getting the dough off the peel and on to the hot stone. No surprise there, seems to be the tricky part! Used a lot of flour on the peel, but still had issues. What technique do you use to transfer the pie to the stone? Is pre-baking the crust quickly (a la Trailrunner) the way to go? Second, after baking and cooling the stone is blackened in spots (to be expected). I cleaned it as per the instructions (scraper, then damp cloth when completely cooled) but wonder - will the residue smoke on its next use? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Looking forward to more pizza and breads (soon!).

I guess word has gotten around by now, but I haven't seen any discussions over here like I have on other forums. This actually happened back in January. "Last week, GardenWeb joined the Houzz family. The GardenWeb and Houzz communities have a lot in common with regard to our shared passion for our homes and gardens and the overwhelmingly positive experience we try to provide our members. You may even belong to both GardenWeb and Houzz already!" This week some GW'ers are getting e-mails from Tamara (yes, they are legit) about sending in your mailing address and getting a small token from GW in the mail. There is even buzz that some of the less-active forums may disappear once Houzz is fully in charge. Don't know if that's true or not but Houzz apparently has there own 'forum', although it's nothing like the friendly chat and exchange here at GW. Jokes abound about how we'll have Appliancezz and Kitchenzz forums. We'll see.

There is no connection between an AFCI (or a GFCI) and ground (green wire). It can't possibly have any bearing on the situation. As the flowchart above points out, what can keep it from tripping is the lack of the supply side NEUTRAL connection as this will keep the circuitry inside the AFCI from being powered (or the unit is defective).

Our last house was built in 1919. There was something like a foundation at the back that might have been for a garage. How wide was a Model A? I don’t know, but a modern car would not have gotten a door open! We parked in the driveway. It rarely snows in Seattle (and not a good idea to be on the roads then). We got waterproof cars and kept all the toys in the basement. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the American garage obsession, but my new house and I have different quirks...

Haha - I did the same thing! I just painted our kitchen white and was planning on glazing them from day 1. I read the same warnings, ignored them, and almost cried when I saw the first door. They DO look dirty!! So instead I'm leaving them white and glazing the accent onlays I've put up. Looks good because they bring out the detail of the carvings, but on the actual doors and drawers? ew.

yikes! for those who still are thinking of glazing...cause theirs WON'T look dirty, just glazed -

pick up an old door somewhere or a piece of wood painted white and glaze that first. prop it up and look at it day after day. then decide if you REALLY want it all over your cabinets.

I think glazing looks best, when it looks naturally worn. Maybe distressed is a better word...but there was some blue and green cabinets (where one color peeked through the other) and it looked great. Dirty color over white would probably look dirty...but good for you, trying something different! :)

Glad you tried it.... so that I didn't have to! : ) I've been trying to figure out how to help my white cabinets. It sounds like glazing is not the help they need. Thanks for sharing!

Something confuses me.
This "glazing" thing.

My mom "antiqued" my bedroom furniture when I was a kid. She took a slightly different shade of the blue and cheesecloth. She watered the blue and wiped it on the furniture. She then wiped it off again.

Is that the same thing?
