Looks good!

Our tile store sold the caulk that matched our grout (and Home Depot does too) so you can probably just get both when you choose the grout color. We caulked at all plane changes (corners, where tile meets wall, and where tile meets counter). You could possibly use clear at the counter line, too. Caulking is sort of a pain no matter how you slice or dice it---the main thing that helped for us was going back over the caulk lines a few days later with a razor blade. It got the caulk off of the tiles (very carefully!), the soapstone, and the grout with no trouble. Our plumber recommended (after the fact!) a special caulking tool that is a tiny little sponge pencil, but we didn't have that. Might have been easier, but I haven't seen it sold anywhere and don't know what it's actually called.

I think the color really depends on what sort of end look you want. We were going for a period look and used Delorean Gray grout with white subway tile, which turned out pretty perfectly---a close match to a friend's original 1920 tile. Using a grout closer to the tile color would have given our space a more contemporary look (which may be fine depending on the style of the rest of the kitchen---just depends).

Thank you so much for the quick and informative response. I will look for your kitchen pictures. I think I remember you writing about the Delorean gray grout colour somewhere else. The grout is a tough choice because it really does determine mood, and, as you say, a period or more contemporary look.
I'll keep my eye out for that specialized caulking tool.

In my experience with TEC products:
- Bright White caulk yields a slightly neon-ish effect. Some here describe it as yellow but I'm not sure that's the right word
- Bright White grout is, well, very bright white. White grout always turns a wee bit gray here and there
- Standard White grout is fine
- Standard White caulk turns GRAY. Like, seriously gray. As in, had to rip it out gray. Our bathroom mix ended up being Standard White grout with Bright White caulk. IT works only because the caulk and tile match.
- The grey caulk and grout we used stayed pretty true to color before, during, and after. Of course, gray gives you a more period look.

Hey Marcolo, thanks for reviving our neglected thread. I was going to wait until we were a little further along to post more pictures and repose the grout question. Right now we're really enjoying the shadow line defining the ungrouted tile. Thanks for your experiences with grout and caulking colours. Our tile is definitely ivory, so we will avoid the neon effect of bright white (I think I know what you mean). One supplier called our tile glaze alabaster, another, candlelight. We visited Haas Lilenthal(one of the surviving grand old Victorian houses)in San Francisco a couple of years ago and loved seeing the ivory subway tile in the comparatively tiny kitchen. I don't know if the period effect is because of the original grout colour or age and accumulated dirt. We are considering gray. Do you have any opinions about a brownish grout colour or warm gray? A bit of the bisque of the tile shows at the edge and gives the shadow line a hint of brown, which we like. I think the period look goes with our trim, but we'll see how we feel as the tile becomes more familiar to us. We have at least two more weekends of work before grouting can begin.
