sewing table base w/wood ironing board top

This project was one where someone came to me and wanted me to do a table with this ironing board top. the base i got at an estate sale and they already had the wood ironing board top. i just spray painted the base and distressed the ironing board with a kit i had. this is a pic if it in her house.

I h ave 3 boards and one base and never ever thought of puttin a board on the base!!! Now,,,, do I have room for it??? this is beautiful and clever!!!

I once had a sewing business, I understand that need, what did was get the ones that hang on the door and fold up flat against the door and out of the way. I had one conviently located in the sewing room and one in the laundry room. Since they are out of the way and don't require dragging out and hauling around it is a big win. They have held up great through the moves, got rid of all the other irioning boards. different models some have iron holder and place to hang clothes. He did not build the frame. He and Jennifer got together a few years ago and conspired to get me the long arm and frame. It is a Hinterberg Voyager and Stretch frame. We have made some modifications, and added storage underneath. I have a big ironing board that sits on top of a regular board, but he is going to build a base on wheels with storage under so it will be more stable. We are trying to work things out so he can come to the retreat. He really does enjoy coming and will miss it. But one of us needs to be available to help with the grands unless youngest DD will be able to. Family things go on for ever. beverly

I'm going to be a fussbudget here and insist that we call it "pressing" instead of "ironing." Good pressing technique is essential, as Annie points out. Properly done, you will use the tip of your iron to "press" heat into seams to set them, then press them open or to one side before joining to the next seam. In pressing, you don't usually slide the iron over the piece, you press and lift along the area. You always press as you go. About a year ago I bought a clover mini iron. I don't know how I got along without that little gem for the last 40 years or so. I make many, many garments and it is one of my most useful tools now. I have both a tabletop board and a full-size board in my sewing room and use both. If I had to, I could manage with only the tabletop, but I wouldn't like it. Welcome to sewing. Perfect Post since a friend was here and was helping me with my laundry room to neaten it up and told me my ironing board behind my door was too low on the wall blocking the central air and the central heat and I need to not be using a tennis racket holder for it but get something more sturdy. In my other place I had it not secured on the wall but leaning on the wall behind the door and when I leaned on the door to get better hold of a big storage box, the ironing board sprang open. It knocked me down. I gave up that night working and thought that was a sign to go to bed. went to bed with the worst headache. I got up in the middle of the night and passed out hitting my head so hard against the floor! I had a concussion and had to get a Cat Scan. My headaches lasted for over 6 months and they were bad headaches. So now I have string tied around the ironing board making it difficult to take on and off as well as having it secured in this racket holder. I need to iron my wrinkled clothes but I hardly ever use it now. It is old, so maybe this is a perfect time to buy a smaller one that closes easier and a better holder for it and then maybe I will iron again. :) I will update everyone. Thank you for this post!

I've got a base and am building a table top of antique southern yellow floor planks for it. It will be my sewing table. I also have the drawers and have used 2 of them so far by putting in 3 tall pillar candles; one of which is filled with river rock and the other stained glass tiles.

I get a lot of compliments on both.

years ago my husband brought home 4 old sewing machines from Home Ec class discards....I only kept one and not the machine...I had enough of those in high school...ha ha.
But I did keep several of the drawers and just stack them on top of each other at an angle for display...can hide all kinds of stuff in them up on a shelf, lol. Mostly sewing supplies.
My MIL gave me a wooden ironing board long ago and I just leaned it again a corner entertaiment shelf to keep the little ones from getting behind the shelf and pulling cords...their little hands can get anywhere.

I also saw somewhere that someone used a metal ironing board to make a yard angel...they used scrap lumber for the arms and did not say what they use for head and wings, but I can improvise...I saw one around the corner in the trash and will get tomorrow if there. did not want to embarass the GS with his friends living there.
