I have glass tiles but I guess mine are different. But I will say this if you get 10 glass door companies out there you will get 10 opinions on what needs to happen. The people that don't bring levels and such get rid of them first. They wanted to put support rods across the top of mine and drill into my floor. Here is how mine is constructed maybe you can tweak it to fit your needs. I have a 28" wide x 80" tall 3/8" thick door that has 45 deg hinges that swings off of a 1/2" thick piece of glass that goes from floor to ceiling. There are 2 clips on the wall and one at the top where this glass goes to the ceiling. This holds the panel steady. It is just siliconed at the wall and bottom, no drilling into floor. The other fixed panel is 28" wide x 80" tall 3/8" thick and has only one small attachment at the top corner the rest is siliconed in. It works beautifully and you see the true beauty of the glass not a bunch of hardware and head rails. My Glass tiles are bullet proof as it is glass laminated onto porcelain and it is really tough to drill through but I don't think they should have a problem using the correct drill bit and possibly keeping it wet while drilling with acetone or water to keep it cool. This company might have had problems before and they are now nervous with the situation. I suggest that you keep getting quotes. It's a pain and slows the process but in the end positive results.

sballman1- It is now 10 years!! Still perfect and beautiful. yes, we installed the curb, kerdi around it, marble on top, and the only thing we did n't do ourselves was install the glass. they came and they drilled holes into the marble for the rail that the glass sat in. also same into the tile wall so the frame clips could be attached. nothing penetrated the kerdi on the curb if i recall. Maybe the wall? I truly do not recall, but i do think i stood there and used kerdi fix as they worked... that seems familiar. it all gets siliconed together so it really isn't going to go anywhere, although i still have a deep fear that I will slip and fall into the glass and knock it down, haha Ultimately you should discuss with the glass installers what their technique is. i would think there are so many more kerdi applications now, they should be fairly informed by now. good luck

The building is supposedly hhistoric and the city insists that the porch be rehabilitated to retain the second empire look The porch must have a glass roof to allow for light in the interior The porch cannot be enclosed I need also specifics as to the resources for purchase of the tempered glass for the same , or acrylic or polycarbonate roof that does not yellow or haze during the course of the years I also need the resources to purchase wood for the support pillars and balustrades that is weather resistant as the city insists that the porch be of wood

I have small Leaded Glass "panes" in a downstairs bathroom that is located at mt patio deck on the outside. Four of these rectangles just fill the bottom half of the window - and the four panes form one entire image. Each pane stands by itself - with lead around the outer edge of each "pane" as well as holding the interior pieces together. The method of attachment is using small brads into the window's wooden dividers. The brads look like lead or bronze, maybe 5/8" long, with a rounded head. It gives the appearance of small cut nails made of lead.
