recycle?

is this the forum where people would post recycled things such as reclaimed wood projects etc?

I am always amazed at people taking things trash to others and reusing them to make beautiful things. perfect contrast to the world of buy new and many today

I'm sort of frustrated - and sad. My most recent post, two years ago ... has only moved down to eleventh location, on page one. Hey, folks! Learning how money works is an interesting hobby! And it PAYS WELL! (Taxes, too!). Having celebrated my 96th birthday a couple of weeks ago, and broken my 12 or so year old car beyond repair more than 3 years ago, when, requiring a driver test, I did not replace it, my friends advised moving from my old step-uncle's farmhouse which, following his death 20 years ago, I'd moved from a 2 bedroom townhouse in the city costing over $750./mo. , renting from the new owner at $450./mo. Rent had increased over those years to $675./mo., and I'd have to pay triple that for an apt. In the city, but, though I could afford it, I like it here. I'm thankful to have health to hitchhike to the village, near to the farm where I grew up, and the city about 12 miles away and this is my third winter here without a car.. Son moved in over a year ago, rent has increased to over $1,000./mo., moving to town would cost well over double that, so figure that if getting a car would allow us to continue living here for 6 mos. to a year or two - that would pay for the car. I'm thankful that I could afford to live in the city for 10 - 15 years or so at least - and when you're starting from 96, that seems like a reasonable timeframe. Sorry - can't think of something humorous to offer, at the moment. ole joyful

blind corner pull-out trash and recycling
Q

I wish I'd seen those before we built. Merillat didn't have that option but we could have installed it ourselves. We have the double trash pullout for recyclables, but I forgot that CT has bottle deposit so instead of newspapers one gets used for soda cans. Trash is under the sink. But I may change out the 18" double trash pullout to pullout drawers and replace the LS in the corner with a 3-4 bin trash/recycle when we get new countertops in a few years! Does anybody know if you have to pull the countertop off to get these in, or is there a telescoping rod with a cotter pin that can just be pulled out? Also, the inside of my corner cabinet is curved - is that a problem for the bins?

Recycle your eclipse glasses...

I think far more rewarding would be to store them in a box that might be left 'accidentally' in the living room on a day when it is raining and the grandkids can't go outside and play. Rummaging through the box, they might say 'what are these Grandma (or Grandpa)?, giving you a chance to talk about the wonders of the eclipse. Maybe even include a book or articles about eclipses in your rainy day box. And (if they have been judged 100% safe) give them to the grandkids for their eclipses, which may happen after you pass away. Build good memories.

Recycle Old Socks
Q

I have mixed feelings about it. On the plus side, it is keeping used and unwanted textiles out of landfill (they have received over 650,000 single socks) . So that’s good. But ultimately the socks you donate get turned into a material that Smartwool uses to make (and sell) “second cut”socks. They retail for about $22. I would be fine if some of the proceeds or some of the second cut socks went to a worthy cause, but I don’t see anything about that on their website. Maybe it’s there and I just missed it? But if it’s not, then it’s a bit of an ick feeling for me to know that your donations are being used to mainly boost their bottom line. Damn, I’m getting cynical.

I was telling GF about old heavy headboard I got from neighbor & painted, makes a lovely potting bench, when I went to GJ to find it ,it was missing so I looked for some other things put on around Aug to Nov. & they were missing also ,so some pages got erased. GJ forum mentioned it was having problems back then so some could be reposted if you posted back then. It happened on a lot of forums as I also had shown some Halloween items & bracelets made of buttons on Craft & Decorations forum. It's too bad because it was a time of great items being shown. Now if I like something I see I print it out by going to top of screen & click on file & print preview & scroll down to see what"page' item is on so you don't waste ink copying everything. If it's on page 3 change your setting to 3-3 & just that page will copy. Then put in a notebook of projects. That way you have it. It works for recipes & anything where pic comes up with post. If you have to go to Photo bucket or Flicker it would not work. I'm pretty computer challenged so DD has to post for me if I want to put pic on. So getting her over here long enough for me to learn it has been difficult. Anyway if you like idea copy so you have it! Jan

I do the same thing Sunnyca! I Print a LOT! LOL
I am putting thing in file folders according to what they are, ie 'trees', 'wreaths', 'bowling balls' 'totems'.

Of couse I am behind doing that, and lots of printed things are just in a box! But I still have them-on the computer, I can't always find them anyway! And then a lot does disappear.
Print preview is wonderful....

I sometimes right click on pictures and "save as" to a file. I have them in a file of other peoples ideas (especially Christmas) on my computer. That way they don't disappear and I don't have to print everything. Mostly I have saved pics of vintage Christmas ornaments from other places on the web that I want to copy, but it works on any picture. The important thing is not to use someone else's picture on a web site or in any commercial way. I usually name the pic by the origin or artist.
