The flowers don't look like Spiranthes. They are bell shaped and no leaves--I dug around through the other weeds and grasses growing with it and it is just a stalk of flowers. Any other thoughts? I have tried looking this up in The Audubon Field Guide to North American Wildflowers and it looks like Colicroot but much shorter and no basil leaves so I don't think that is it.

Thank you ladies. I edited my post because we actually head out of NC into SC at or near a little town called Landrum (which did btw have some good antique shops last time we were there). @DLM2000-GW I love real antiques and I love to dig for a treasure but I am not crazy about junk stores. Nice consignment stores would be good too. I see people who find great things at Good Will, etc. but not here near me. My husband and I love to antique and we have been a few times as the pandemic has died down. One good thing is if we go on a week day - there are very few others shopping, so we have felt safe. I know there is the big store still in Asheville, down near the river (I believe it flooded once) and I have found a few things there but that place is HUGE and I get overwhelmed and tired! I'm sure we will find at least a place or two, and we will enjoy the outdoors too and just getting away for a few days! I don't know if any of you are close to Black Mt., but there used to be an antique store there, with quite a bit of items outside. They had a PET ROOSTER, it was kind of their mascot. I am thinking that place has closed though. If you think of any stores let me know! My sis and I and our husbands will visit here or there a couple of times a year I'm sure, but we were trying to come up with some places in between where we could meet up for a couple of days. They enjoy antiques too. I do google before hand when I know what cities we will be in. I'll take a look before we go to see what's left in the area. Thanks.

I am not sure but it looks like Prairie Parsly AKA Polytaenia nuttallii. The leaves don't really look right unless it is a leaf for another plant growing there. Also the mountains of North Carolina are a bit out of its range.

Sorry Funky, I just saw your question. We stayed in Southport, NC which is very near Wilmington. It's a cute little town. We really didn't do much in Wilmington, other than visit the beach area and a restaurant or two. We drove through the neighborhoods looking at the beautiful old homes. I have been to Wilmington many times in my childhood, as my god-parents used to live in that area. We have visited the battleship, although I doubt that is something you and your sis want to do! LOL!! There is a nice historic area and a riverwalk. I know you said your sister wouldn't be interested in museums, but there are some nice old mansion/plantations now set up as museums that you can tour. Not the typical museum. For the Asheville area, I believe you said something about antiques, visit the Antique Tobacco Barn. It's a bit overwhelming as it is LARGE, but lots to see in there. Someone mentioned the Sleepy Poet antique store in Charlotte, I believe we went there year before last when we stopped overnight near Gastonia, NC. As for BnBs, we like to stay in one if we are staying in one spot. We are very much "road-trippers" and love driving from point A to point XYZ and stopping at spots in between. Those trips do not work well for BnBs once you figure in the fees. There are some very nice hotels in Asheville, and in many of the larger cities in NC. When you do visit Charleston, there are both nice hotels (some very nice ones!) and some great BnBs. We like to stay on one of the surrounding islands and usually rent a place on the beach.
