i don't like how the back splash goes over your window sill. it looks as though the window was put in as an after thought. Just my opinion. It is a beautiful kitchen otherwise. I'm kind of jealous actually.

I'm not sure what you mean? The area to the left is a half wall (open concept into the living area) that currently has oak trim on it. The backsplash piece I'm referring to is the longer trim piece straight dab in the middle of the photo.

So how does he "fix it?" How do I explain that? We have plenty of material so I'm okay with him removing the entire 10 x 10 sheet and replacing it. But then would he cut the bullnose sheet shorter (more narrow)? And would you make the bullnose piece cut into thirds so the grout lines go to the edge of the wall or no?

not an expert. But, yes, it looks wrong.

The bullnose edge should have been on the short end of the tile. So the subway pattern continued without interruption to the edge of the open wall/cut out and wood sill. I hope you find a way to get him to cut and weave the individual tile to make it look right.....

Maybe edit your post to ask for installation help. This might get more useful feedback.

When you say you purchased longer individual bullnose tile: Is it bullnose on the short edge? Or are the individual tiles bullnose on the long edge? Both?

I assume the tile has bullnose on the long edge. I make this assumption bc it seems like he cut the sheet and flipped the tile vertically, putting the long bullnose on the edge of that wall cut out. Yet, I can't tell from the photos what's going on next to the cabinet end. Is the tile edge next to the cabinet-end also bullnose? Did he cut and place a piece of the individual bullnose tile there? Did you want that top edge to be bullnose? I am trying to think through dealing with that corner piece and whether it would need bullnose on the top and on it's side....

Maybe you could explain that you do not want any tile placed vertically. Instead, he should cut the individual tile to size so it continues the subway pattern and the bullnose edge should be where the edge of the tile meets that opening? (Not sure how you want to handle that top edge?) Maybe also suggest that he can cut and trim the sheets as needed to preserve the pattern rather than just putting small slivers of bullnose tile at the edge? ....

Yes, the bullnose is on the long edge, which is why he placed it that way. The small square has bullnose on two edges. I guess I just assumed he would cut it to make it look right. This is as close to an example of what I expected that I can find.

You can't see it - but there is also an edge off to the far left (beyond the sink) and he started there with laying the tile so the bullnose hit just right. Then as he worked his way over to the right, he ran into this additional area that needed the bullnose. I don't know, maybe he shouldn't have trimmed that out at all (and just continue to the edge). My husband says it looks better as a whole in person ... I'm still thinking we have time to fix it if he does it NOW.

If the other side of the wall cutout is treated similarly with a bullnose piece then maybe it really doesn't look wrong. (Sometimes when my DH is right it's a relief, but it still annoys me! Hahaha.) It is really hard to say just seeing this one section. Initially, my eye was naturally drawn to that vertical tile: which of these isn't like the rest. But, if that pattern, vertical tile at the edge, is repeated on the other side then it likely looks like a purposeful design.

Glad the corner piece and the top is bullnose bc it looks good. Actually,the kitchen is lovely and I really like the tile. Good luck. I am sorry this whole process is so stressful!
