Thank you all! You are all so encouraging and kind!:-) Odiegirl - Our island top is 42" x about 90", base is 39" x 78". I knew from early on that the micro would probably go in the island to save space and be close to the fridge. I also knew that I'd rather the micro be below the counter than up high. I'm only 5'2", so it's comfy for me. I also wanted my kids that are old enough to use it but too short to reach high to be able to get to it easy. I did make sure that I got a model with a child lock feature to prevent my littlest ones from playing with it. I don't really think they'd bother it, but better safe than sorry. Anyway, it took a little brainstorming to figure out the exact island layout, mainly because I was trying to squeeze everything I could into it without having any wasted space. I knew I wanted a decent sized sink base(it's 21"), good storage, and a trash pull out. And, I wanted it to look balanced from all angles on the outside. Took some brainstorming, but I'm super happy with how it came out. MsRose - The paint is Tobacco Road, Duron formula from Sherwin Williams. I learned about it on the Home Decorating board, and I LOVE it so much. It's a warm, rich tan with golden undertones and seems to go with everything. Cawfeegirl - Our main reason for doing the ceilings the same was cost savings. Painters charge a lot for all the color changes, and we already had a lot throughout the house. My first preferrence is when the ceilings are a lighter shade of the same color, but once we got to really looking we had a hard time figuring out how we would've accomplished that anyway. Our dining vaults and the way that it flows into the living room would've made it hard to do a separate color on the walls from the ceiling. The cool thing is that from different angles/times of day the ceilings actually do look a shade or two lighter depending on how the light hits them, and I love the way the ceiling color looks in the rooms where we have lots of crown. I think it's just all personal preferrence really.

We are just finishing our new kitchen, white shaker cabinets and giallo ornamental granite which was just installed 2 days ago and is absolutely gorgeous!! I fell in love with travertine, so we are going with the tumbled imperial cream subway 3x6 tiles. I was going to do the mosaic picasso for behind the range but was worried it would be too busy. I am adding a link to a picture on houzz with the GO and a mosaic backsplash that is breathtaking. From experience, if you decide on the mosaic or any travertine for that matter, I would ask for a sample from the lot you would be getting so you can see the range of colors and see if it would be too busy or not, it is amazing how the colors can vary from the tile stores samples they have. Hmm, I'm not sure about gray walls with the warm granite and dark cabinetry. The undertones of the granite are fighting with that Revere Pewter, IMO. I have used SW Mindful Gray with Giallo Ornamental, but it was tempered by white cabinetry and a lot of natural light. I'm not sure it would work in this case. Accessible Beige might be an option. But honestly? I might try a color rather than adding one more neutral. Your fixtures, mirror frames and granite are really nice and a color might bring them out better.

I love the metallic grey with it - I don't think it's too sparkly at all. super pretty!
