Pan hangers for no kidding heavy pans?

Here's a picture of a short diagonal one I like the look of but its not a very good picture (real estate pic). I've never seen one like this.

Generally, do people have these and use them? I have mostly Le Creuset, some Analon Titanium non-stick frying pans, one really heavy stainless steel frying pan.......Right now it would have to be a wall hanger.

I have these ones, but the name of the manufacturer escapes me. I'll do a search and see if I can come up with it. They are very heavy duty, but must be mounted into wood. We mounted a board on the wall (into the studs) and then attached the rack to it. We painted the board the wall colour and you don't notice it. Another member (klb2000 I think) has the same rack and had a wood block put in behind her drywall while they were doing her kitchen so you wouldn't see it.

Just remembered - ours is by enclume (I think). You could also google utensil bars or wall mounted potracks.

BB, I'd have put it into the aluminum pan, but I'm too late. I often make small pans of lasagna and freeze them in those disposable aluminum pans. Lots of tomato sauce and even with the acid the kids don't notice a difference in flavor. I've done the same thing with cabbage rolls for Dad, no problem. And boy, if it had compromised the flavor, Dad sure would have let me know! Annie

Granite and cast iron pans

Unless you put diamond dust under your cast iron pan, it shouldn't scratch the granite. Granite is much harder than iron. We aren't terribly careful people and have had no chips or dings. Some kinds of edges get dinged more easily than others. We have a full bullnose which is hard to ding because it has a smooth curve - no corner sticking out to catch the weight of a pan coming down. If I had it to do over, I'd have a half bullnose instead - round on the top of the edge and straight on the lower part so that drips don't curve around the edge. A sample with rough edges chipping won't mean that your granite will chip. I had a tiny sample of our precious granite. Because it had rough edges, it was fairly easy to worry off a little piece, but the full size counters with finished edges are fine.

I just got a Martha Stewart enameled cast iron casserole - the 2.75 qt for I think $29? I'm in love with this pan. Heats evenly and well on the ol' portable induction. I might get the bigger one if I find it marked down. Browns things well without burning. Pans I think are needed depend on family size, how often you entertain and for how many. The venerable chicken skillet (12-14" heavy straight tall sides and a lid), egg pan (8" non-stick), chefs pan (10-12"), couple of 2-3 quart pans for veg, couple of small pans (1-4 cups) for cooking cereals, melting butter or reheating soups, one 6 quart pot(s) for making soup, chili, stock, pasta. A non-stick griddle. Maybe a 12" black steel frying pan, maybe a larger stock pot - like a 12 qt. Not criticizing johnlin, but I can't imagine what needs a 20 qt pot. Flotilla of lobsters? Tomato sauce for the jolly green giant? One of those things where you cook the pig head? Seriously, other than canning, what's it used for? I'm kinda agnostic about woks. Partly that's because they don't work well on my p.o.c. range. Brightens up Maybe I can get an iron one and use it on the induction.

Drawers for pots and pans

What do your sister's shoes look like? No, really. Does she half open a drawer and pull out the pan from the bottom of the stack? Or does she open the drawer fully, and lift the stack to get at the pan she wants? And yourself (your family?) What are her cabinets made of? Will yours be made of the same stuff? Does she have a condition that affects her ability to control the things she's holding? (Arthritis, palsy, nerve damage, limp muscles, too much drink, congenital clumsiness?) It's not anything I've ever heard about. My own pot drawers haven't been in long enough for me to know about them, but the first thing I'd do is figure out what nicks are from "normal" wear and tear, and how much is from lack of care, lack of grace or infirmity. If you can eliminate all of those, then I'd look at the materials and see if it is something about them that makes them more prone to nicks, and see if there were another choice that would hold up better.

Thanks budge1. I looked at your link and googled and checked enclume. No diagonal. Maybe its not made anymore?
I really liked that look but I suppose I can make do with something different if it comes to that.

Could you email the realtor and see if they could find out where the rack came from? It's a long shot, but ya never know. :)

I had a horizontal bar custom made by someone on ebay, it was extremely reasonable, very strong, and I loved the way it looked. It was wrought iron, made by hand. If you search ebay for Panther Creek Farms, that's the man who made mine.
