Grout color with Lansdale Carrara marble

I went out yesterday to buy some grout for our backsplash, which is to be done this week (finally! keeping my fingers crossed). I was all set to get an off-white, but none of the colors looked right, so I ended up with plain white (I think it's basically the uncolored, nonsanded grout). Is this going to look okay? The marble ranges in color from very pale cream to gold to gray-green, so the lines will be more obvious, but they will only be 1/16".

Also, I went to HD, but is it maybe worth trekking to a tile store for this?

Beautiful tile. Since you have such a variation in color from one tile to the next I would think either grout color would work. It would just depend on if you like the look of a brighter white grout line, which I happen to like.

I'm surprised to see your carrara tile with so much cream/gold in it. Can you tell me what brand it is and where you bought it? I'm planning to use some carrara subway tiles too but I think I need something with a lot more grey.

Pretty tile!!! I'm going to go to a tile store for my backsplash - since I'm not sure exactly what would look best and those little colored patches on the outside of the boxes at HD are worthless. Bring a variety of your colors - my tile store has little samples of the color that you can actually put between your tiles to give you a better idea.

Do you have a sample of the Silestone Lagoon to look at with your tile. I think you are right that it might look slightly off but it's hard to know with out seeing it in person. I also think it might be difficult to find a solid white countertop that will play well with both the white in the tile and your white countertops. Maybe you should concierge a light to medium tone gray countertop. It will provide a little contrast and keep your room from looking too white (unless that is the look you want). I think it would look better not to have too much movement in the countertop since the porcelain carrara tile has lots of movement. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing the Carrara look alike tile my daughter used in her bathroom. She opted for light gray cabinets and initially wanted a white countertop. She shopped remnants for her countertop and was not able to find something that didn't "look slightly off". She ended up using a black quartz that had some lighter speckles in it. She thought it looked better than a solid color. Perhaps you could find a grey with some flecks of dark grey, black or white in it. I've posted many pics of my daughter's bathroom on this forum but here's a few shots for you so you can see how contrasting colors work Since you probably don't want to go with black, maybe something like Silestones Ocean Jasper Or Moonstone Would work for you. If your not limited to Silestone Cambria has some options that might work too. Snowdown White Greystone Good look with your search for the right countertop.

What paint color for master bedroom and bathroom with carrara marble?

Warning - this is an old post! @juddgirl2 - i was wondering if you would post post photos of your bathroom/bedroom. I’m trying to finalize things fir my master bathroom/master bathroom renovation and would love to see what colors you chose. I’m planning on using Mapei Warm Gray for my carrara marble - your Custom Platinum looks nice though! Hmmm … . What grout color did you use for your slate floors? My slate tile has been installed - will be grouted soon. I am pretty sure that I know which color grout I’m using - just would love to see whatever you did just in case I like it better! 😆 Also, I’m thinking about purchasing some porcelain blue shams/throw from Pottery Barn to use as an accent color in my bedroom. Quiet Moments is one of my top choices for paint - did you wind up selecting it or Chelsea Gray? Wow - it looks like I’m stalking you!

I like a soft gray grout with cararra especially on the floor where a white grout gets grubby no matter how clean you are so that should work . I think Mountainscape is a pretty color but IMO an actual color might be nice with all the cararra to brige the whites

erika: this isn't a true Carrara marble, I don't think. This particular type has more of a gold cast to it. I got it at The Tile Shop; it's their brand, I believe (it's from China).

I guess my instinct was that the plain white grout will give it a traditional look, which is what I'm going for here. And won't sealer make the white grout a little darker?

Backsplash is going in on Thursday, grout on Friday. Guess I can ask the tile guy his opinion.

FWIW, I used Tile Shop's plain-old white grout on mine. After it was grouted I thought it didn't look as good as the ungrouted side of the kitchen. I actually thought maybe I should have gone with a light tan or off-white. White will look fine though.

smilingjudy (I was kind of hoping you would see this and respond), did you seal your marble? If so, did the sealing darken it and/or the grout at all?

Yes, I put two coats of sealer on before grout and one after. It didn't alter the color at all.

If you want something to blend the tile from Home Depot, look at Italian Straw. If you want something to show up with just a bit of contrast, look at Linen.

i wouldn't use white. Your tiles are more cream than white. I like bill vincent's suggestions. When I picked out my floor and back splash, I just asked the tile sales person to pick the grout for me. I'm very happy with what was picked.

Sometimes it's just easier to let the people who see it every day help make the decision.
