SW paint advice please

I know I just posted this on Ttodds posting about the SW sale, but I'm going to go and pick up some "raw" uncolored paint tomorrow (mainly because I dont know exactly what colors I'll want/need and the sale ends Saturday.

but I'd like to know what your experiences have been with the different types of paint that they sell and what you might recommend.

I would say primarily, I'll be buying it for furniture that I'll be painting, I need a nice matte black and an off white color..AND?????

Other than that, I'll be buying some oil based paint and/or primer for my kitchen countertop redo. Have virtually NO experience using oil based paints, so any help tips, suggestions, recommendations would be most welcome.

One blog I found on redoing the laminate countertops (not from GW)mentions an alkyd oil paint and then another references using an oil based enamal paint. since this will be a high traffic area, what do you think would be best?

I see SW (at least on line) sells both the all surface enamal and an alkyd enamal

I just repainted my kitchen, dining and living rooms, hallways, and foyer with SW Super Paint. Loved it! I can't recommend a black but I have used SW Antique White on cupboards and a buffet. Very nice creamy white. I also painted a laminate counter top about two years ago. Not in the kitchen but in a bathroom. It has held up fantastic. I cleaned it well and primed with BIN Shellac primer, two coats of interior acrylic paint (satin finish) and then two coats of clear acrylic. I allowed a full 24 hours dry time between each coat. People can't believe I painted it.

tannatonk, that's exactly what I want to do, I'd love to see your before and after pics if you still have them?

What are the price ranges for the different paint they have does anyone know? I know the adhesion primer is about $16 for a quart.

I saw a similar redi post that got my juices flowing and I figured, I have little to lose, worst case scenario is that I mess them up and well, then we just get new ones. But I'm pretty sure I'll have no trouble with them. I am going to do the counters first then paint the walls and then a tile back splash, then put in a new sink and finally recaulk the counter top etc.

The last and maybe the most important thing is the finish paint on your home. This is NOT the time to get cheap. This is what you and everyone one else will see from now on. Do some research and apply the best coating possible

Lovely! thank you Kisa. The lighting will be poor this time of night, but I'll add photos in the morning. As we opened the kitchen into the living room by removing a wall, I plan on painting both rooms Light French Grey with Snowbound Trim. the far wall in the living room (opposite the kitchen) Will have a TV and art on it, and I'd like to make it appear to recede and add some drama to the room. We are getting new furniture, and only have chairs on order so far, with sofa decided, but not upholstery, so everything else is flexible, but going for lighter furnishings. I know we should wait to paint, but my husband may divorce me if we don't get paint on the wall. It's been months with patchy walls from our remodel! He works from home and the unfinished walls are driving him crazy

If you don't like odors, try the Harmony line. That's all I have personal experience with and thought it was great. I'd never painted before I did our new basement 3 yrs ago (1100 sf of space where I had to prime and paint--ceilings and walls). In the enclosed space in deep winter, I was worried about fumes, but they were negligible (the more pigment you have, the more VOCs you add). For our new build, the painters are using Super Paint, I think.
