Screen Porch vs. Sun Room
Comments (20)chisue - How big is BIG?? lol We have a small family so I don't see a 25-person gathering situation. The screen porch will be off the great room which will likely have french doors flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows. Our current deck is 12x16 which seems roomy. I haven't spent much time thinking about arranging a screen porch but I am thinking I would not have an eating table on it. It may be just a space for relaxing. I can picture my husband and me sitting on lounge chairs enjoying the pond view on nice afternoons. lsst - Yes, the idea of a 'conditioned' sun room has fallen by the wayside. Our breakfast area/sitting area off the kitchen will have floor-to-ceiling windows so I'll consider that my "sun room". Between the building costs of a true sun room and the on-going costs to heat and cool, that idea is officially abandoned. Thanks for your reply which re-enforces my thoughts....See MoreConverting screen porch to sunroom during winter
Comments (11)We put actual glass in ours. So glad we skipped on vinyl panels. They scratch and dull in time. Not windows. And a local glass company was almost the same price and delivered! We are not trying to winterize our deck though. We are in Washington State and that would cost way more than we can afford. We used some boat carpe for the floors, kept the carpet 3 feet in from all sides so it doesn't take on water from the 1/2 inch gap under the sides. We did have to insulate and enclose the tin roof above with tongue and groove so it doesn't get condesation. If you are building, make sure you use real roofing, not tin roof. They condensate big time. That was our one big mistake. We can store stuff out there, as long as we keep them in plastic bins. Nothing cardboard will last. Even though the dirt under the deck has a vapor barrier and we have rain gutters, it's not enough. For air flow we put in 3 large windows that are nothing but wooden blinds. I don't have pics of the tongue and groove yet. Besides a bit of moisture in the air, it's still pretty nice out there. We are going to get a propane heater out there. That will do it for us....See MorePlease help me get more sunlight into my kitchen
Comments (11)what you need is a bank of windows where your upper cabinets are, to the left of your window. up for a project? remove everything from those uppers, see if you can find another place for those items. then add 2 or 3 more windows along that side. it will be magnificent. you dont even currently have a backsplash to have to deal with! if you cant remove that storage, than double your current window by enlarging over the dishwasher as well. you'd get about 2x as much light as you do now, and a lot of breeze in the summer....See Moreseasonal room, screened in porch/ sun room decorating
Comments (6)I have a day bed coming on Friday and I got a chase that looks a bit Victorian just randomly in the middle right now and a pub style table that I just painted white to also put somewhere in there. But I want to add bright color decor, lime green, turquoise, orange accents and keep the big pieces daybed, chase, table and curtains light and creamy colors to make as comfy as possible....See Morebarbara_2245
