Crackle glaze not crackling

I used the crackling glaze by plaid but when I painted over it only a portion of the paint crackled. I used the same plaid brand acrylic paint but it didn't work out so well. Should I have used a different type of paint. I have some leftover white latex ceiling paint. Should I try again with this thinner paint?? Any other suggestions? All help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have only seen the crackling done on tv. But a thinner paint is not what is required I would think. Try HGTV.com
I think it is in the application of the crackle medium that determines the final crackle paint layer. For example I have heard it said do not go over and over with brush strokes of the medium. How thick or thin the medium is may make a difference in the final paint application cracking.

As previously stated how thick you apply the medium determines how definitive the cracks are. And you can not streak the paint color over more than once. I use a wide brush loaded heavy and make one swipe till the paint runs out, reload and do it again. If you recoat the paint it will not crack through more than one layer of paint. You can do it again if you put the medium down and start over. The drying time of the medium can make a difference as well; each brand usually has it's own recommendation. I usually let it sit a couple hours. Good luck

Wow! I am dumb-founded by this but, after checking with Dawn at Sonoma Tilemakers, I've confirmed that these REALLY are their instructions for installing their crazed product in a wet enviroment. BUT, even after spending hundreds of dollars on the extra sealer and paying even more hundreds of dollars to have someone soak and towel-polish these tiles to prevent streaking, you will STILL have to keep a regular maintenance schedule to re-seal them every 6 months or so!!! I'll admit when I'm wrong, and I was wrong here. This manufacturer really does insist on a 5-minute soak in sealer for it's crazed tiles. Who would'a thunk? So, it would appear to me that this precaution is solely intended to give the manufacturer some legal "cover" as it does not extend any more lasting protection than a thorough sealing prior to and following the application of grout. I was told at a tile store (disclaimer: I was told something at a lighting store that turned out not to be very accurate) that to get the crackle finish, after the tiles are baked, a thin glass layer is added to the surface, heated at a high temp, then cooled quickly creating "cracks" in the glass, hence the "crackle" finish, and that it should be sealed. I do believe it should be sealed, as I had a sample of one where something had permeated a portion of the crackle surface, and it didn't appear there would be any way to clean it at that point.

Thank you all for your feedback. I've been busy with out of town visitors and haven't had a chance to respond. It looks like the majority of you voted for crackle tiles! So, crackled it is! Igloo, your tiles are to die for. They kinda remind me caramel...yummy! I will make sure to have the tiles sealed before and after grouting. Thanks for the advice. Sue - the tile choices are crackle tiles by Sonoma Tile Makers and non-crackle tiles by Waterworks. Can't remember the name of the colors off hand, but they looked really similar. lesmis - I will pick the crackle tiles so that you can vicariously live through me! Plus, the crackle tiles are cheaper, so it's a win-win situation! pluckymama - I tried to take pix, but it was really hard to get the texture of the tiles to show. What a disappointment! Thanks everyone! I will accept that they will remain the way they are - still pretty but no sparkle and they won't crackle more. I did look at the Encore Bravo line but none of the colors would work. We were looking at one of the other Encore tiles- but it is much more $ than the Grazia and not super different (except for the sparkle).
