I think you probably want a right-draw traverse rod. Try continentalwindowfashions.com. for them. They have both the traditional white metal ones and decorative ones that look like the wood or metal pole rods. Yes, you will need at least one support for that span. Traverse rods allow for that because of the way the carriers function. Your drapery will have to have pins in the top to hook into the carriers, but I am guessing if you are doing sheers you will easily find them with pleated tops, into which the drapery pins go very easily.

I agree. I was thinking something with clean lines (no curtains). Would you do a shade on the door itself and a separate one for the adjacent sidelight? Or would you do a single shade across the door/sidelight opening (and you would have to raise it to use the door)?

Maddie...the table area door opens to a screened porch. So not much risk of fading in that area (maybe fading on the porch however). If I put something on the door area without the porch I will probably put a matching treatment on the table area door... i have thought about putting a solar shade on the exterior screen porch area on the beam that is to the East but didn’t follow through because I just became stymied due to uncertainty. if I had this it might even protect the area without the porch to some degree. I will get serious about this. Does anyone have a good source for exterior solar shades or should I just have the window gal look into it for me? i love the idea of an awning on the outside of the uncovered area. For the sliders, I'd look into a remote controlled roll down shade mounted outside above the doors. You can get them in different degrees of opaqueness, to control the light, but they will not give full privacy at night unless you get opaque, which won't work in the daytime unless you want black out. Most people have some kinds of lights outside their doors, so if it's lit outside there is no 'black hole' effect for uncovered windows. On the corner windows, I'd want bottom up shades so they could be partially covering the bottom part of the windows for privacy (the only part anyone could see in), yet you can still see out over the top and get the light.
