Opinions for painting a beamed ceiling?
Comments (6)I have seen just about everything: beams left stained wood, beams painted a vibrant color with a white ceiling, beams painted white (or gray or other neutral) with a colorful ceiling, beams painted one color and ceiling painted another color, both painted same white ... I think the thought process really depends on the rest of your kitchen. What are your tastes, how much fun do you like to have? Some decorating styles have more of a tradition of it than others, but there's definitely room to make it up. Another consideration may be the rest of your house, and your site. I live in the city, where many people's ceilings are visible from the street as people walk by a little lower than ground level. I can't see into most people's rooms, but I can see many people's ceilings! So someone who has an interesting medallion, or beams or a mural (lots of artists in my area) is a pleasure to see on a cold walk home. If you have, perhaps, a siting area where you can see a portion of your kitchen ceiling out of the corner of your eye when you are sitting, then it might be nice to have an interesting ceiling. Something to consider....See MoreHow to treat outdoor knotty pine ceiling?
Comments (1)We have T&G pine for porch ceiling. We gave each board two coats of clear poly finish before install. One day it will need more poly. We know this from another ceiling we had on another house. The oil should give a nice finish, although depending on your weather, it will likely also need redone in time. Our poly was not particularly shiny, although I don't know if DH was using matte finish poly or not....See MorePaint or white wash vertical pine planks in cathedral ceiling room
Comments (4)That is a lot of pine and painting will hide the knots where staining won’t so I think you need to decide the look you want.I am not a big pine lover so I would probably paint the walls take the ceiling back to natural colorand hopefully the ceilings and the floor would be the same as the ceiling to keep finishes to a min.Stay away from any yellow hued lighting , so no Edison buls anywhere. Use LEDs in 3500-5000K range to keep the light as close to natural sunlight as possible , most of my clients like 4000K range for lighting. I think a lot of the feel will come from your furnishings , art and rugs....See Moreknotty pine ceiling
Comments (3)It looks like your ceiling has some sort of finish on it already. I believe most liming finishes would require that you take that off first. I know when I lightened my knotty pine walls (with diluted paint) I had to sand them first. I love them now, but it was a lot of work....See Morenewdawn1895
