fabric or paper under glass

I have seen mosaics with pictures, letters, and even fabric adhered to clear glass, then used as a custom mosaic tile.

Does anyone have a link on how this is done?

this real issue is to use a glue that doesn't soak into the paper or to seal the paper before hand. I have had success with silicone with this, Some ppl swear by doing modge podge 1st,, and I have even closed clear tape over something 1st. wwhat ever you do, never use the original photos because it is a risk.

I have done this a lot only I did it to the cross that I did then I sprayed it with a sealer .Then I used safety glass over the top .

These are done with the velum wrapping paper (purple one)
The other is fabric .I did not spray that one it was a texture fab I just held something over it till it dried.

I use commercial landscaping fabric. After cutting about fifty holes, I switched to a torch and burned another 300 holes in about half the time. Weed free, saves water and the snails hate it. The black is good for Michigan, as it warms the soil, but you may opt for a lighter colored fabric. As for the dry, mine are planted on mounds so they resist our spring downpours. I would use straw until you are ready to replant. I personally hate straw as it seems to plant more weeds that it prevents and with all the rain we have, mold issues start to spring up.

Hi Fog, Most cool season grasses do not require stratification. Due to seasonal circumstances, those which self-seed drop their ripe seeds after the soil has cooled below the temperature needed for germination, so they wait until the following warm spell. The month of the year, day length, etc.. really have little bearing. It's all a factor of soil temperature and available moisture. You could start ripe seeds almost any time under glass. Warm season grasses are much the same. They require higher soil temperatures, so they generally won't start germinating until later in the season. Thanks for bringing this grass to my attention again. I had them on my want list, but never did anything about it. Jelitto was out of stock on seeds, so I just ordered a flat of plugs from Bluestem. The desk looks to be about 48 to 52 inches long. I would look for a cabinet to install on the wall above your desk to store all the 'stuff' up there. This is what we did over my desk. I used to have two big shelves, they always looked messy, and it was hard to reach anything and keep it neat. You can look in an unpainted furniture store, then paint your desk and cabinet to match, also use matching cabinet pulls. The cabinet itself doesn't exactly have to match the width of the desk, it can be a few inches smaller on each side. You can buy three or four seperate cabinets and install them together. They can also be installed at seperate heights, If you buy three cabs you can install the two end ones lower than the middle one for instance. You'll still have lots of room to have a bulletin board and some prints between the desk and the above cabinet. You can also buy pretty reasonable cabs at home depot and paint them as well, also check Target. For the top, (glass is nice, but expensive) we made a nice big desk blotter, using an old piece of paneling 1/4" thick and used spray glue to glue naughyde to it. You can make it as big as you want, heck, you can cover the entire desk, for just a few bucks, as compared to using glass. If you're a clever shopper, you can scurry up the cabinets without breaking the budjet. I'm sure you've seen my desk, I hope you know what I'm talking about.

The Costco and Home Depot products are interesting and I will look further. Finding products that could upgrade the polycarbonate to glass would be desirable. The Home Depot product video is amusing because it clearly shows that a setting sun bypasses the windows on top and expose the car to full light from the side. That would suggest that the Costco product having blinds might actually be a useful feature. If one stays with a simple geometry, I am almost wondering if you couldn't just put up steel beams and then develop your own mounting systems for glass or polycarbonate. You would need to pay attention to gutters and drainage. But I'm guessing you could use high strength steel beams and you might end up with something more flexible.

I have had great success with fabric under clear glass. I lay down a sheet of plastic, then the fabric, right side up, then coat the piece of clear glass with Mod Podge. Then I press the glass down onto the fabric. I hold it down firmly, then release. Then I go back several times and press down firmly to make sure that the glass is completely adhered to the fabric with no gaps. After it is thoroughly dry, I lift it up and with sharp scissors I cut the fabric close around the edges of the glass.

Same here - I use Mod Podge on paper or cloth. I give it several coats of MP to make sure it's completely sealed b/f putting the tile down.

Would weldbond brushed on work the same as modpodge? The package says it makes a good sealer when diluted.
nana: I am not sure what you did. Is that crash glass over it? It's so sparkly!

Yes crash glass and I do use a lot of glitter some times.

You could try Mac glue, it is also supposed to be good for glass on glass. I think it is available from Maryland mosaics or one of those mosaic online shops,in the US, might be expensive, but a little goes a long way, use sparingly.

How does Mac differ from E 2000 (I probably have that number wrong, but you know what I mean), weldbond and silicone.
How many different glues can there be? Weldbond seems to be a glorified Elmer's.
