i went to visit my stone fabricator today. he's a really sweet guy and i want to order all i can through him since business is a little slow. he can get my tile at great prices so i'm happy to shop with him. he was telling me about a job he just finished. his installers put in a farm sink and the owner called him a week later accusing the installers of scratching the sink. they demanded it be ripped out. this guy always wants customers to be happy so he takes back the sink. he's telling me it's a really expensive. it's a huge farm sink... i tell him to show me and he takes me to the back warehouse. sitting there in it's box is the 36' shaws fireclay sink! i start squealing like a crazy person, "that's MY sink!" i bought the sink on the spot for $700. i originally wanted it in biscuit and this sink is white but i think i can live with it. and there is a sink on ebay for $400 (STEAL) for a pick up only ...in california. not possible since i live in nj. so that's my bargain of the day. heck, that's the bargain of the month!!! i LOVE carlos, my fabricator!

I've noticed that the people on this forum who like Shaw's sinks don't just like them, they really, really love them (including me)! Enjoy!

well, obviously haven't used it yet but it is gorgeous! and i obviously made a huge typo. the sink is 36" not 36'!

Gene, It is clear from my research that branch "growth rate" has a tremendous impact on the type of leaf pattern that a fig tree displays. On cultivars that display multiple leaf patterns, it will usually display the higher lobed pattern on any fast growing branches or sprouts. If your tree is growing rapidly.....it should already be displaying the higher lobed (Brunswick-type) leaf pattern if it is a true O'Rourke. You can read more about this in a thread I started on the figs4fun forum.....see link below. I know James Robin personally and visit with him often. I am the guy who first advised this forum of his small business and made his contact information available to this forum. Some forum members have been less than polite and fair in dealing with him.......some still owe him money. Since you have visited with him, you know first hand why he finds comfort in working with his trees. He sells very nice trees at a good price and he takes care to insure his trees are true to type. kateskouros, Curious how you made out, did you order the Capital range? I am doing kitchen renovation and considering Capital 36" range. As I have just today joined this forum, have had difficulty finding reviews or opinions on range so far. My gut tells me it is a good option but would feel better if I could hear from somebody that has had experience with Precision or Performance, before I order. Will need to order range for end of September. Anybody else have opinions or advice on Capital 36" ranges?

I never pictured Ann T older - but then I saw pictures of her quite a few years ago, and talking with her on the phone reveals that she is young at heart. I've always thought of Ann_T as being extremely sophisticated, which is not something I generally associate with a "homebody". And I've always found her attitude to be youthful - at least as youthful as my own, and I'm very immature for my age. I don't know where this older homebody image comes from, but then maybe I'm out of touch myself! I've met Ann Spacific, and she's always been a delight to be around. I wish I could have been on the Island with the two of you. I'm overdue a trip to Canada, and so maybe in the next year or two I'll make it back up to B.C. If you want to compare prices, you can just ask Atlantic Blue for a quote. There are also other water treatment companies available. Realize also, this is a down economy. There is significant wiggle room in their quotes, particularly if you have a quote from an online source plus a quote from a local plumber for install. For future reference, since all of your posts have been about the same issue, if you keep them in the same thread instead of starting a new one every time, we will have all of the relevant information in one place. I don't personally believe Kinetico is worth the extra expense. I'm not knocking them - they have a quality product. But, if you buy Kinetico you are tied to Kinetico for parts and service. The rep you found annoying? -- He's your guy. If you buy a quality, industry standard softener with a Fleck or Clack valve, parts and service are readily available from numerous different companies.

i'm another big fan of shaw's sinks and our 36"-er is in the process of getting installed, it's been sitting on our base cab awaiting countertops for a few days now.

I have the Shaw 39" double-bowl sink. I call it my kitchen altar. My husband thought I'd gone loony the first time I got to see and touch it. A sink is a beautiful thing! LOL

Yay for you!!! Was the scratch there? Some people can be overly picky.....

julie7549 - my 39" double bowl shaws farmhouse sink is sitting in a box and will be for a while longer. Could you please post pics?!!!? How do you like yours? I have taken a few peeks and stroked it a couple of times. . .

Akarinz, I knew I wanted a farmhouse sink from the beginning. I was all set to order a Kohler from HD until I saw the Shaw's. It is much heavier, chunkier, more substantial feeling (in a good way -- those adjectives are bad when, e.g., referring to my waistline). To me it says "really cottage" and by comparison the Kohler sink says "kinda, sorta, maybe." Does that help?

They are beautiful. I didn't get one in my ktichen, but I have been trying to work a 24" version into the laundry room. :-)

prettttttty sink, coleen! congratulations. how wide is the larger bowl? i always wanted the single bowl so i could soak my giant roasting pan inside ...something i couldn't do with my old ss sink ...but yours looks like it may hold a roaster too.

remodelfan: the scratch is on the top of one lip where they had it mounted facing front. i don't see this as a problem as carlos (fabricator guy who i LOVE) is getting the touch up kit from rohl AND we're going to mount it so the side with the scratch faces the rear. the counters will be marble with a double ogee so it may cover it anyway. i love difficult people. it affords the rest of us some pretty great deals.

I so love my sinks. I have the 36 in and the 27 inch. How can a sink make someone so happy?
I guess for my DH he would rather me happy with a beautiful sink than a armful of diamonds, ( I do like diamonds though).
I also knew I wanted a farmhouse sink and when I saw the Shaw for the first time, it was a done deal. So glad I made that decision.

What is it about the shaw sink that people love so much?

for me, it's the look. they look old. i think it's the chunkiness that someone mentioned, it's also the fact that they're slightly uneven and not uniform-looking. they just give a really classic, vintage look.

To those of you with the double bowl - have you found a sink grid that will fit your bowls? I wish shaws made one. I have my sink on order but could not find a protective grid.
