Half vs. not saying at all

I was reading in another thread the conversation on siblings. I have half and step siblings and have never referred to them as anything buy my "brothers and sisters". A few of my siblings live out of state and I only saw them during the summers and I am still close to them and call them my "brothers and sisters". I have brothers and sisters many years older than me and many years younger than me. We may not be best friends all the time, but I do not consider them "halves" or "steps"!

As for our kids, they are steps. But, they never call eachother steps, and we have never even approached the topic with them. They just refer to eachother as "my brother or my sister". WE have never "forced" a relationship with them, but we do have rules on how our kids should treat anyone, including eachother. They have all formed their own relationships with eachother and outsiders would never even know that they have not been together all their lives. (there have been bumps along the way-at times my bio child has felt left out, but those instances have become VERY few and I think that can happen in any family or even friendship)

I agree with the posters that say you do not have to say "step or half". If people want to know they are welcome to ask. Just like my dh does not say "this is my second wife" when he introduces me to people. If they are important in his life they already know that fact! And if they wanted to know all they have to do is ask. Who really cares to ask such questions though? I can not imagine asking someone if that is their "real sibling" or "first spouse", to me it does not really matter.
