Yep. We came through it fine, just some broken glass, blown over trees, and the such. In several cities around us, it's total chaos though. Several cities in the state are torn up badly and one city was completely wiped clean. There is nothing left. At 8am the death total was 13 with more expected, including a whole family killed. Three other states had tornadoes also, with Tennessee's death total being almost twice what ours is because it hit Memphis(densly populated).

We lost power in flashes most of the night and had a lot of heavy rain and very strong winds after the tornado, but we came through fine, lost a few trees, the patio table, some paintball bunkers, the hammock, and the patio door. Everything else is fine. Thank you for asking!

WOW!!! Glad your okay! We have been hit by tons of snow here, and more is on its way, but have not heard of any deaths related to the snow here.

https://www.masonryandhardscapes.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/CMU-MAN-005-15_branded.pdf My Oklahoma native wife found this as we have just bought our first home with our mother in law they have lived through 2 ef5 tornadoes And they have asked me since closing as we're doing a remodel and adding on a few room upstairs and downstairs for an above ground tornado shelter Masonry reinforced concrete safe room as it will suit our growing family best in time but they say to have it attached to the start of the addition were thinking of making it a bathroom or butler pantry so it has a dual use as it in the centre of our plan and it comes out on to a hallway as put as many Walls between you and the outside as possible it's will be backing on to our in-law suite closet so it will be in the centre of our house once done Hopefully that will help you

Tornado siren going off this morning

A friend near Anniston, AL had a large old tree fall on the main electric lines. Earlier on the NWS site there was a tornado alert for a tornado at Selma so expect lots of damage. In some areas pets are now being allowed into the public storm shelters after so many people died or had to be rescued because they would not leave their pets so people who might use a public shelter should check before the normal storm season. When I used the sleep tracker on my IPhone it blocked notifications unless they were designated to be allowed. I stopped using it because I did not receive a telephone call.

When I saw the news reports this AM of damage in KY, I thought of you. So glad the tornado missed you! The storms throughout the day that approached my house were nothing like feared - some lightening/thunder but not much, and only one really heavy downpour. The bulk of the storm front passed to the south of Columbus. I more often heard more distant thunder, and when there was a tornado warning about 35-40 miles due east of me, I could see the lightning flashes from my FR window. The storms with tornados a week ago were stronger and the tornado warnings closer..

Tornado in my daughter’s town

I'm also late to this topic and Jilly, big hugs to you and your family. Has your daughter checked out storm shelters, maybe paying a monthly amount? I wonder if they're cheaper in the off season which should be any day now, you'd think. This May is the first time we've been in our cellar in years. I can't even think when we were last down there & this month OK had so many tornadoes it's unbelievable. So far we had one a few miles past us which I took a photo of, two weeks ago there was one about 4 miles away coming straight towards us then it lifted, and a few days later there was a tornado one mile south of us. Had it moved one mile north which their movement is generally NE, no telling what would have happened. All of them at night! And more tonight, tomorrow night and on and on. The only plus is I found my favorite water bottle that'd been missing for a few years. :) BTW, I saw a trailer for the new Twister movie which was filmed in my area, and it was THE stupidest thing ever. All these people were at a rodeo in OK when a twister suddenly hits. Oklahomans are weather aware & we close shop early if we know bad storms will arrive within hours, and no way no how would anyone go to a rodeo. Right, Ollie? :)

Crazy! Glad to hear you weathered the storm well though. I have to say stories like these make me appreciate my rather boring weather state!

Those are a few links (with pictures) to some of the news sites in the area and msnbc. 52 dead in 5 states with Arkansas and Tennessee being the leaders! It's insane!

Thanks ladies for the concern. :) I'd love some boring weather, but I enjoy a good thunderstorm sometimes, just not tornadoes.
