rehabing bathroom-new tub & sink & tile
Comments (4):) Sorry, the world is littered with 3 and 4 letter acronyms, based entirely on venue and context - makes it hard for some (me) to know who knows what when. Anywoos, tile is relatively easy to install, especially is your walls aren't soggy from mildew and dryrot. There are many online sources you can find that can help. At least with the Schluter, you don't ever have to worry about a bad tile job causing water damage. Pick up a book online, Ebay is a good place to look. Search for "tile books" I am sure you can come up with some book that will help. One thing I want to mention - green/blue/cement board used for backing tile installs ARE NOT WATERPROOF - these materials are considered WATER RESISTANT. There is a big difference. Only some sort of water PROOF membrane is truly water-proof. Put another way, the difference between resistant and proof is the difference between you needing to re-do your shower now or never. Good luck!!...See Morecost to refinish antique farm house sink
Comments (2)It's not possible to refinish at any cost. There's not one company left in the US that re-porcelainizes them anymore. Any other method of "refinishing" is just fancy paint that will fail when used in a hard use environment like a kitchen sink....See MoreAntique Sink- Faucet Help
Comments (24)Katy we are restoring a historical house too, and I really like maintaining a historical look. I'm wondering if you could use a widespread faucet with the hot and cold handle on each side, with the mixer/spout in the center hole? The lever that stops the drain is useless and just for decoration. We ended up using one of the drains that 'pops' in the drain. That was how we retrofit plumbing for a salvaged sink. We have used Kingston Brass faucets in both of our bathrooms (KB 'metropolitan' style). I'm not sure about the quality of the brand - we have had it for 5 years and only recently the cold handle started to get a little sticky. So I wouldn't rule that brand out just because they offer a one product line that may not be code in every location....See MoreRestoring plumbing on antique bathroom sink
Comments (8)What all isn't working? You might have to wander the internet for washers and things for the old faucets--or replacement handles at least. Does(did) it actually have a popup mechanism in the middle? Not just a thing to hang the plug off of? neat! I'm sure you can ignore it when you replace/redo the faucets if it polishes up OK or remove it is you can use the hole for a spout. If you go with a new faucet with a mixer, take out the old parts and measure the holes first. I had an old sink with tiny holes once so there was no way to get a modern faucet in. Then you'll know if a widespread (minus the popup) will work. As cute as 2 spouts and a thingy in the middle are, some of us like warm water. :) Is the glaze in the bowl crackled? It might be too far gone for heavy use but could still be very cute in a powder room....See Morektj459
