Small Small Kitchen update
Comments (18)Hi Miss Jay! I did check out your blog. You have a nice chatty style that is easy to read. I, too, prefer to do my shopping online. I like how your kitchen turned out, with all the cubby holes and little shelves for oils and spices and such. It is homey and comfortable. One question, do you have ventilation with the side windows in the garden window? It looks like you might. With the range hood fan on and those windows open, It could get a bit of a breezy flow going during cooler times. Otherwise, I would worry that your little kitchen would get stuffy. I have admired your screen door plate rack since the first time I saw it. It is so pretty, so practical, and such an unexpected surprise when you see it there at the end of the hall. Your painting skills are to be admired, as well, shown by your three little monkeys on the table top and the Hamsa. Your home is alive with the warmth of your personality and your skills. Congratulations!...See MoreSmall kitchen design
Comments (20)It seems when people talk about having a small kitchen, they really have no idea what a small kitchen really is. I look for ideas for decorating and it is very hard. I have a galley kitchen. Long and narrow. Wall to wall it is 7'9" wide. End to end it is 13 feet long. Ceilings are only 7'6" tall. Beside my fridge is a 30" deep by 5' long wall that has the central ac/h and water heater on the other side of it. In my kitchen is the usual stove, fridge, built-in dishwater AND the washer and dryer. If I ever learn how to post pictures, I will show you what I mean. We are getting ready to redo the kitchen, new floors, countertops, paint and what-not. I have the theme I want too. My problem comes from not knowing what changes I could make that would make it seem bigger. I don't know if I even have enough room to put in a microwave above the stove to clear more counter space. Does anyone have any suggestions?...See MoreNeed help with colors and other details
Comments (5)I really like that photo you posted. My sink is where the stove is and my stove is where the sink is. Just as small as this one. I am now thinking it would be a fantastic idea to have the counters on the side walls only. It would make the space look a lot less busy. Thank you. I never responded to the thread because I could not find it later. This board is busy!! Someone just found it and told me it was on page 17. LOL...Since I am in advanced stages of work maybe it is a good idea to throw some of my ideas out there and see what you think. I have also been getting some help from some of friends in the small homes group. the layout is such: on wall A (left)is where the stove is. That wall is 101", wall B (bottom) is approx 118" and on the far right is a doorway that is 38"w and leads to the living room, wall c (right) is 101" and has a doorway on the top of the diagram which is now also 38" wide and leads to the laundry area, back door (main doorway) and bathroom. wall D (top) is the wall with the sink. I will be putting in a 48" garden window in its spot. It was supposed to be here last Friday and no telling now when I will get it. Don't get me started on that!! It will be centered on the wall. Wall A has the brick and I was going to brick up the rest of the wall but I have a contractor who is going to make a fake stone wall covering it all. Wall b is a log wall. Here is a better photo. I am in the process of re-chinking the wall and then I am going to paint over the logs. Here is what painted logs look like I just brought the stain for those logs and it will be a creamy white. I believe its called Pot of Cream by Behr. The stone wall colors is going to be two different shades of gray and some type of rust color. The counter tops I have changed to do in black and have no decided on what material yet. I think I have already went over my budget. waaaaay over and not sure how I managed to do that. LOL . I have not made up my mind on the wall colors and it has changed so many times. I was thinking of a light gold called Pismo Dunes (Behr) oh and I have no seperate dining area so I ordered a brace to go on the wall to make a fold down table. It will go on wall C. I have not conclusively decided on the cabinets yet (where they will go. I am really up in the air on them. I wanted to do a corner cabinet in the two corners around the stove but I was not sure about that. I was also going to make them if I could not find them used for a steal but not sure about that now either. I like that layout of that white kitchen just posted with everything going on wall B and D. Thanks for your help. I also have a blog with more info. Ms J Here is a link that might be useful: A City Girls Country Dream...See MoreSmall Kitchen, small Thanksgiving
Comments (5)steph, we're still having left-overs, too. I think I'll make homemade noodles today, to go with the turkey. We had a wonderful meal, but a smaller group than usual. However, all my kids and the grands will be here this evening :). On T-Day there were only 11 of us--table set for 12, but my brother's truck was in the shop, so he decided to ride with his wife to her daughter's house. Having fewer than 12 gave me a chance to use the beautiful linen table cloth and napkins (set of 12) that my dear late MIL gave me many years ago. As I was setting the table I was thinking that the last time the napkins were used, her kind hands had laundered and ironed them. Before my FIL left, I thought it would be nice to remind him of the same thing. I'd like to leave you with that lovely sentimental thought, but with my quirky sense of humor I must also relate that later that evening, after the guests were gone and the mess cleaned up, my sister told me she had observed dear FIL wiping blueberry pie, and then blowing his nose on my beautiful, special napkins. That was after I'd rubbed liquid soap on the blueberry stains, with my fingers, before putting them in the washer. Lol, she could have told me a little sooner, but after raising three kids, I guess it's not the worst thing I've ever touched. ;)...See Moremsjay2u
