Rianna says start at the bottom and work a little way up, let it set, then wet your joint with water and start applying again and work your way up some more. Keep wetting the place where you stopped and the new cement will adhere. She uses the aluminum metal mesh for stucco, and does 2 layers of mesh and the concrete fills in between the two layers. Since you are using chicken wire, I would do two layers. She says also if you do a finish coat prior to mosaic, use portland and silica sand or real fine sand to make a smooooooth finish. Also looked at Lyndalu's pics from SAMA, she took Sherri Hunter's workshop and it showed using StaticGard to keep the bits from flying. Also one pic showed a lot of tools she recommends using. Be sure to use only Portland cement with the sand mix, no stones. Mix to peanut butter consistency and add a glob with your trowel and use hands to work it into the wire and smooth it out. If you are going to mosaic the bench, I would do two coats and use a wire brush on the second coat to give it a little of a rough finish and then use thinset to set your dish shards, tiles etc. Good luck. Even though it's been unbearably hot, I go out early enough to get a couple hrs. yard work done. Been pulling out all the Day Lilies that have gone back to their original bulb stock. Used to have some luscious one, but they all changed back to the tall yellows, and I got sick of them. Doing away w/the fence line beds. Hired a landscaper to come on Wed to clean up and plant grass seed. I decided to let him finish laying the concrete borders and mulch the shrine area for me. I was killing my back. I can do a little yard work and pull a few weeds every day, and that's satisfying enough. Should be able to post a picture of the finished shrine/water feature on Wed. afternoon. Re mosaicing, I glued a tiki torch to hold a blue wine bottle that I made last week -hate it but gonna grout this afternoon, and put it up somewhere - gotta get the hardware to put into the bottle top. After that's up, and a little more yard work finished, I gotta start birthday and Christmas presents. Doing three of my Elephant Ears leaf casting tomorrow w/neighbor and her friend in my workshop/garage. This message is too long!

Oh Slow, What can I say!!! Wonderous!!!! L.O.V.E. your patio...looks cool and shady! I am ready to spraypaint my clear plastic roof as it is about as hot a Hades!!!lol! DH vetoed to uv protection roof as he deemed it too much money..ya. Well you have inspired me to go wild with it and maybe paint a mosiac style!!!lol! Each square/checkered...hmmm. I am building a arbor with trellises on either side and have finally made a decision about the GOG that's going in it! Yeehaw! And now that my pond is built, I plan to BLING it up with dangly stuff off the pergola that's over it. I am so gonna paint and bling up my chairs/furniture now that I see yours...YOU sooooo Inspire me!!!! Did I mention that I plan to have a peach tree grow along side the deck/house, then up under the deck roof, and it will be like a green house for it!!! I love the little frog lamp you have, I just was given a turtle one!! Well, it's cookin' here, so I better get out there watering!!! Now enjoy that masterpc of yours Slow!!!!

Thanks to all of you. I am delighted that you like the table and chairs. The mosaic around the umbrella pole base is something I did as the bricks were laid. I left some triangle shapes and then measured them and made a cardboard template. I then cut them out of 12 x 12 floor tile and mosaiced the backside of them. I really wanted those spokes so to speak to pick up the colors on the table. I am glad it is done because it makes me happy when I see it. Thanks again to all of you Carol Calamity- you just better get urself on down here. We are waiting for you.

sirius, the other glass is "bronze blue" Van Gogh.

Emtnest, I am mosaicing over a cement-like cross that I found at Ross.

Nicethyme, Gray grout is what I have on hand. What do you think?

LOVE the cobalt! Very pretty work, too. Gray grout sounds perfect to me.

Slow, I cut the glass with my simple pencil grip glass cutter, then used the grinder to even out the edges. Haven't made it to grout yet, woke up with a terrible sinus headache. Hopefully will go away soon!

WOW! that is beautiful. I cant quite see what color the grout is, is it grey? It looks great with the mirror pieces and the blue.
