I Have No Shame

Amongst all the wonderful art I've seen this morning, I have no shame in posting a lowly little shoe shine box I mosaiced last week. I grouted it along w/the Heart Plaque yesterday and have no shame in posting it twice. I had updated the Heart Plaque but - boo hoo - nobody looked. So, here's a link to the box, and the grouted plaque can be viewed in "Inside Mosaics". Thanks y'all for talking me into black grout for the plaque. Oh, I didn't want to cover it completely in order to show it's age. I like primitive.

OH I like that!!!! it's really cool and I agreee with leaving some paint showing too. and yes I went and saw the blue bottle plaque too! I love it, black was the way to go for sure. It's very cool. I love your shard work, its so lively and seems to have Hispanic influences

I think it has RedHead influences! It is beautiful Slow, I love the paint showing too. I saw the blue bottle too, I think it is gorgeous. You have been busy...doing a great job as always. Carol

Hi Brenda, How nice of you to ask! I had a HIDA scan and it showed that my gallbladder was fine, so that's not causing problems. I've had labs drawn and they are normal. Next is a new ENT on Monday, to find out if I have an inner/middle ear problem. The nausea and dizziness are doing better, but now my ears and sinuses are acting up! I tried my CPAP again a couple days ago and woke up with horrible pressure in my forehead and a headache. So I don't know what the heck's going on. All this might be because of the weirdness that my fibromyalgia causes. But it sure sends me on alot of wild goose chases! I actually found an internet site today that talked about how CPAP can cause problems.......but I don't know if this ENT will agree. I'm hoping I have an infection that can get cleared up, and then I can use my CPAP again. I'd hate to think I have to be tired the rest of my life! I hope its not cancer from the radium treatments I had when I was little. Don't ask me why I had them. It was sort of one of those fad things back then. :( Are you sorry you asked yet? lol! I'd love to see a pic of the yellow corona'd carnosa. Sounds interesting. I don't like the self watering pots, I have a system that works for me and I like to be more in control of the water, I like seeing it run thru the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot...in fact, when repotting my hoyas, if they go into plastic, I always add more drainage holes with a phillips head screwdriver. For clay, I use orchid pots with the holes or slits up the sides for more air movement. I would imagine though that if my plants were outdoors all the time I wouldn't stress as much about overwatering since they dry out so much more quickly. I have some big plants in very small pots too, I don't really plan it that way, I just don't repot them as long as they are happy! Thanks for all the great pictures, I feel your pain about having a hard time finding hoyas, it is like that everywhere. THat is one gorgeous obovata! As for kerri, you know how to make sure all your seeds don't get blown away by the wind when the pods open, right? If not, let me know. Also, pot them up right away, hoya seeds are not viable long - I learned that the hard way. If you have too many, I'd be happy to adopt a few! I have a kerri, but it is soooooo slow to grow. I started out over a year ago with 3 cuttings, one has grown about 10 inches, another about 2 inches, the last not at all. I would love to have a few more to make a fuller pot, and maybe I will live to see it turn into a real plant. (or maybe not!)

When I was little my grandmother baked bread almost every day, and so I learned by watching her. It's very helpful to have someone show you how to make bread dough the first time - I've been making it since I was 8 or 9, but I had good help in the beginning. I didn't use mashed potatoes in my bread dough, but I did always use potato water. Today I use a bit of potato flour or potato starch. I agree with Linda that it's good to make the dough by hand at first, so that you know what it is supposed to feel like. Alternatively, you can watch videos to help you learn. I used to make a recipe similar to Nancy Silverton's sticky buns (link below), but I used walnuts instead of pecans because that's what the restaurant had. Everyone, Thank you for your kindness. I talked to my best friend about thirty minutes ago and I decided to let it go. I have concluded that this young woman is a reflection of her upbringing and her parents. My DH's side of the family isn't very formal, and while my MIL (and FIL for that matter) is polite and mannered, she was a single mom with two rowdy boys. I think that my DH wasn't paying much attention when my MIL was trying to instill any type of social etiquette. The BM of my SD's is on par with some of the worst BM's described on this forum. She is all about her and she acts as though everyone should bow down to her, as she is doing all of us a favor by gracing us with her presence. Sounds harsh, but any MOM who tells their cute and well-developed daughter that she doesn't want her around her BF while she isn't around isn't going to be a stellar example of anything but self-centeredness. She either thinks her own daughter is a threat to her or she thinks her BF is a pervert and chooses him over her own flesh anyway. SD isn't the type to be uncomfortable with emotion and I have been in her life since she was in 6th grade. I think she is who she is. I believe that she was probably sorry for that brief moment when she heard the news and now it is back to more important things like her. She is like this with everyone. I guess what ticked me off the most is the fact that her dad told her that she didn't have to worry about attending the service. She's not a child and doesn't need to be given "a way out" by daddy - that's just my thought. I am also irritated that he would think forwarding her message is appropriate. The saddest part is that one day she is not going to know how to behave socially and it will make her look badly or perhaps cost her an opportunity.

I like it a lot! Good idea to leave the paint showing too. It does give it that "primitive" look.

OH Slow that is GREAT!! I am so much a green person. The old green is so appealing. Love the blue squiggles. I have some squiggles. I MUST start using them.

I can't find the hearts. I will go digging for them.

I rally like the box, and I'm glad you left some area clear of mosaic. It shows so much more of it's original character.
I can just imagine this with a "sticky" arrangement in it, or towels, or magazines...

Slow- I did look at the heart plaque yesterday but I swear it wasnt done yet so I didnt comment. Your shine box is really cute and like bama said will look great with stuff inside it!!!

I still love your heart plaque...I just went and looked at it finished and it looks good. If you would've use grey grout I think you wouldve been disappointed as it just doesnt make it pop. I even darken my charcoal grout when I use it to make it even darker!!!!

A SHOE SHINE BOX! I have one of these, that I have used for years as a magazine holder, and never knew that's what it was. Frankly I've never really liked the shape of it, but WAS recently looking at it as a TBM, and now I see yours! Well, what do you know! It may soon have a new life, thanks to the ever-inspiration SLOW! Thank you!

Good job on the shine box!Q:That dark round thing on the side, what is it?? A glass rondel? The heart plaque POPS!! AND I saw the finished Mexico shrine and ANGEL!!!! LOVELY!!!

I like that you left the inside unpainted... less is better sometimes (your wastebasket gift for CJ, too.) Both were a great choice!

I have a similar shaped box. Probably 100 years ago... in a tole painting stage of my life.. I painted it. Most things from them have gone by the wayside... but you've given me an idea of how to bring it out again and use it in a different way! Thank you!

And as alway.. thanks for the wonderful inspiration!

The shoe shine box is charming! I like it showing it's age. Gosh I wish I had one to mosaic.

The black grout on the heart plaque looks great! Perfect accent.

Thanks y'all. Couldn't get back here yesterday. I built a frame for my next project. CALAM - the round thing is a lamp part. Notice the rusty square on the rock side? That's from the hardware store we visited in P.V. The shine box w/be a gift for Grand D.
