I'm new to this forum. Would someone be so kind to maybe list the abbreviations that are being used in the postings? Thanks~

BM - Biomom
BD - Biodad
SM - Stepmom
SD - Stepdad
SS - Stepson (also seen as DSS - Dear Stepson)
SD - Stepdaughter (also seen as DSD - Dear Stepdaughter)
DS - Dear son
DD - Dear daughter
EW, ExW or XW - Exwife
EH, ExH or XH - Exhusband
SO - Significant other
BF - Boyfriend
GF - Girlfriend
CS - Child support
CP - Custodial parent
NCP - Noncustodial parent
EOW - Every other weekend
CO - Court order
I think that's the really common ones

Sometimes you might see
GM - Grandma
GD or GP - Granddad or Grandpa (that one doesn't appear often though)
SGM - Stepgrandma
X - Exwife or Exhusband
N&Ns - Nieces and nephews (I use this one a fair bit, but I've only noticed other people use it once or twice)

As for general net abbreviations that we sometimes see on here
IMO - In my opinion
IMHO - In my honest opinion
JMO - Just my opinion
WTH? - What the H3ll?
AFAIK - As far as I know

We also have abbreviated nicknames for one another:
Ima is Imamommy
TOS is theotherside
FD is Finedreams
Mo4 is Mom_of_4
I've seen benicebekind called BNBK
And so on

I always think it's funny that the abbreviation for bio-mom is the same abbreviation commonly used for bowel movement:) I'm not being mean, as I am a BM (bio-mom) myself. Has anyone else ever thought of that?

Thanks again to petzold, you've responded to a few of my posts, and it is nice to see a willingness to help! I was afraid that GW was not very active, but now I see that it is in fact "alive" My thanks also go out to gardengal! I have seen your responses in the landscape design forum, and you seem to be quite knowledgeable...as do many of the folks in that forum. I have found a wealth of information there while reading many of the older posts....newer ones too, but the older ones seem to have more follow-ups. I plan to continue learning from everyone there and perhaps one day I will seek counsel myself. So, OP=Original Poster, very good to know. Perhaps "operational plan" is when you prepare to extract/implant plants/features around the garden, sort of like an appendectomy or perhaps an augmentation. ....maybe :/

Okay, let me say we go to the HOSTA SPORTS, and you choose from the list on the left, GOLD STANDARD (97). It shows the family tree of sports from Gold Standard, with the little color letters being like for example, Captain Kirk (yg) I know that means "yellow green" But which part is yellow and which green? Is the first letter an indicator of the middle (or leaf) color, and the second the margin/edge color? Like yellow leaf green margin? That's part one of the question. I could not find a KEY there to explain their lettering system. If you go into the descriptions of the names of some very changeable hosta, there are a bunch of letters which HAVE to mean something. WHERE IS THE KEY? What do these mean, when they are used one after another to explain the pattern of color change for the shape-shifting hosta? Let me give you an example of the complicated hosta, such as one I was puzzling over today: I was checking sports of FRAGRANT BLUE. specifically, SECRET LOVE. It's leaf color is shown with the abbreviations: bl,(y>w)e Now that just blows my mind!! I got Secret Love in a pot in my garden, but I could not look at it and with this abbreviation know what the heck to expect, or even figure it out... I can see that bl = blue? y = yellow w = white but they put the ( ) around it, and then wind up with the e = _________ what.....???? So if there was a key somewhere on the website, I could make a stab at learning it. Someone put a whole lot of time into adding that tiny little box of information for a whole bunch of hosta, and I know it could be useful, if I knew what it indicated. MIL and FIL-mother and father in law and also XMIL and XFIL -exparents in law. BIl brother in law. SIL-sometimes i saw people using it for son in law sometimes sister in law.

I am 71 and I think of myself as a modern woman who gets right in on new things. I am first and often the only one in my circle of friends and family who embraces new technology like PCs, but I guess I am finally getting old. I hate the abbreviations, especially the one for names of the posters. I had no idea what they stood for, I just get disgusted and move on. I would never be able to read a text message from a kid. LOL

If I want to address a poster I copy and paste their ID.
