Recent Pottery Barn Quilt purchase

I recently purchased a quilt from PB because I had purchased one from them about 4-5 years ago. I have been very satisfied with the old quilt, but I was ready for a change in my new house. The new quilt was so much thinner and flimsy than the old one. Even worse, it was several inches smaller all the way around. I might have put up with the lesser quality, but the smaller size made the quilt useless for my bed. I have a king size, but my mattress isn't an oversize pillow top style. I don't see how this quilt would fit any king size beds.

It is getting ridiculous. At what point do companies stop cutting back on quality and dimensions? I would pay double the price of most PB quilts to get decent quality and sizing! I won't even start with the quality of clothing ...

Enough ranting! Any suggestions for good bedding sites. I have many bookmarked, but haven't found anything I like. Hope to get some new sources. Thanks :-)

Chispa, I had an older PB quilt too. I love it. It still gets used in the guest room. When it was time for my new quilt, I compared RH and PB and went with the heirloom quilt from RH. It feels so much nicer and the size was more generous in my opinion. I haven't moved yet, so we can't testify to the wear and tear yet. HTH. RH is currently having a bedding sale too which made the upgrade more tolerable.

I feel your pain. I carefully check the stated sizes because so many quilts are just too small. I do find that coverlets have larger dimensions, so that's what I've begun to purchase more often.

Thanks everyone! I completely forgot about the possibility of outlets, so thank you so much, Patty! Unfortunately, I called them all this evening; no one has anything left, and hasn't for about 6 months. I've learned this was discontinued a year or more ago. : ( Live wire, if the kings were reasonable on Ebay, I would although I don't think my efforts would look professional, so would have to pay to have it done right, but recent listings have been for over $300., so, not going to happen, not to make a twin! My3dogs, I SO wish that duvet would have worked, but that link is to a different pattern, which is a tight repetitive/all-over design. I've since learned that the one I love is called "Fern EMBROIDERED Organic Quilt" which has a largely open white quilted field sprinkled with a few random raised green embroidered fronds of various types. Who knows, even though it's not the right one, maybe I'll consider it if I can't locate the other. Gabbygirl, never thought about Craigslist. I'll check to see if I can find the national one you refer to, as that would give me the better chance, I think. I hope others may post deas which may turn out to be resources that might help you, also. Good luck with your search! Thanks!!!

I do have one of those "crazy big mattresses" :-). That was why I was concerned! I think the queen will be too small and the kind too big according to the sizes listed. I thought to save money by ordering the Pottery Barn quilt(nearly a hundred dollars with quilt and shams)vs the Restoration Hardware quilt that has a more generous size. Does anyone have suggestions for where I might find an oversize ivory quilt with decent quality that is a bit less expensive than RH? Thank you for all your feedback! Carol

Sunbrella Rain cushions from Pottery Barn not waterproof?

After much back and forth over many months, I was sent new cushions. Honestly, they're not much better. The fabric still wets out, water gets under the cover and soaks into the cushion, and is stained by anything that touches it. The inside of the fabric does have a coating on it that should theoretically keep water from soaking through, but it is seemingly ineffective. Perhaps they've assumed that because there is an inner coating, there is no need for any sort of water/stain repellent on the outside? Another issue seems to be the stitching that is supposed to prevent water for getting through the seams isn't 100% effective, so when water gets in, it stays in. I still cannot understand how Sunbrella determind the fabric was performing as expected... it certainly does not perform as advertised. I cannot leave my cushions out in the rain without getting wet let alone let me kids sit on them for dinner without staining them. We're also in Florida and the cushions sit outside. I don't even bother getting them out unless we're having people over. I have some inexpensive lounge chair cushions I got on clearance from Target that have performed significantly better than the Rain cushion covers and they're 10+ years old. Unless Sunbrella has changed the fabric considerably, I would not waste my money on it. You're better off going with whatever outdoor fabric over foam that dries quickly. And opt for mesh fabric/covering on the bottom so water can drain out. Unfortunately, this means you can't flip them over, but at least the water can drain out easily so when they inevitably get wet they will dry easily.

I just purchased the charcoal color. They are very heavy… much heavier than my other sold wood chairs. The finish is more of a dark gray than true black. They texture of the wood is odd… my husband said it seems more like polywood than real wood, and I agree. I checked the description and it said solid rubber wood… there is a rubber tree in Southeast Asia so I assume it is that, but the ridges and surface seem artificial. In summary, I like the lines of the chairs but the color is not true black and material seems off.

Coverlets from Peacock Alley are oversized, and if anything are too large for the beds sizes they are marked.

Bella Notte linens run on the small side, at least the ones I have.

LRL coverlets and comforters are decent sizes - even long enough to tuck in a sleigh bed (all the way around).

Wow-- that is a shame! I got a PB set that was on clearance and love it. That was about 8 yrs ago-- didn't know the quality went down, because I always thought I'd buy another to replace it someday. Guess not!

What quilt did you get? As an unofficial PB expert ( I spend gads of time looking at their catalogs :-( I have noticed a couple that are actually more throw size and there is one Indian type quilt that is not really a bed cover at all.

Bumble, it was the Lara Paisley in red, which I think they have run out of with their recent bedding sale. I also ordered some new ones from PB Teen for the kids, but we haven't received them yet. I'm not worried about size as they have full beds and the quilts are full/queen, so they should be large enough. I hope the quality of those is a bit better. I'll update when we get them in the next week or so. I'll go check the sites you all mentioned. Thanks

Pottery Barn has some nice duvets, etc. I'm not sure about their quilts. What a bummer that it is too small!!! I like to look at PB catalog for ideas, but really, I think you will find something more unique elsewhere.

Right after I wrote my last post the UPS guy showed up with the PB teen quilts. I just opened one of the quilts and it better quality than the "grownup" one I returned. It has a bit of a factory smell so I'll have to wash it first. Size wise it just fits the full beds, so the full/queen sizing would be too small if used for a queen bed.

DS2 is transitioning from a dinosaur quilt to a more mature theme for a 4th grader! No more little boys in the house :-(

I saw the Lara quilt the other day at the PB Outlet. I really liked it, but they didn't have any of the shams. I would've considered it for our guest room.

It's a very nice print, though!

I know people here rave about PB Outlet, but I can never find anything I like there! The Lara quilt was the first thing I liked at a decent price, too.

Hmmm, I don't know about the weight but the measurements seem fine. I won't buy a quilt under 108" wide for a king and LOTS of quilts are a lot less than that ( and at very nice stores too) but the Lara was surprisingly 108".

Maybe you could measure your bed so you know exactly what size width you will need. I did that after I kept ordering too small quilts.
You may find you need to go to a coverlet size instead - I rarely see quilts over 108". Most are between 102 and 106.

I would measure the Lara too, if it's their error they should pay return shipping.
