Returned last Sunday night, worn to a frazzle, and am almost recovered. It was a wonderful workshop, and I have a head full of new knowledge I'm anxious to put into action. I went to learn cold connections and soldering techniques. I wore a couple of my projects during the remainder of the workshop, and hope to refine my work in order to make larger pieces for mosaics. The enameling alone w/be fun to use for making my signature hearts. I made three pendents and a bracelet.

I went through Susan's website, and am just blown away by her talent. I wish she lived closer to me so I could take a two day workshop. She only gives one day, and lives in CO. She really has a handle on making beautiful art. Inspires me to make another shrine. I'll let Sam know about your fellow mosaicist who is going. If I weren't already committed to other dates, I'd definitely take this workshop. Maybe next year.

Puerto Vallarta - w/be the sixth year for the annual trek. CALAM and KLINGER were there w/me for the first workshop w/Riana - that's where we learned to make the armatures for concrete garden sculpture. Riana teaches a workshop there every year. The Hacienda Mosaico is a wonderful paradise - an unforgetable experience - an artist retreat. Gonna try to make it one last time. Going solely to mosaic anything Sam, the owner, wants me to work on. Okeydoke - sorry I'm late w/this, but here's the list. Tin snips/metal cutter Lineman Plier - 7" fits most womens hand best. Trowel - round nose - for mixing and applying concrete Garden gloves w/rubber palms Rags Pigments if you want to color your cement Wire brush, nail or tooth brush can be useful w/cleaning textured or porous surfaces in smoothing out the concrete. For those driving, bring your own large buckets/ I have some containers also. If time permits and you want to begin mosaicing your sculpture on the second day, bring: tesserae tools for cutting (nippers or hammer) adhesives and applicator Riana provides the metal lathe - it's the diamond-shaped kind used for plastering walls - NOT hardware cloth w/the square holes. She provides the sand, cement and 19 guage wire (I use 18 cuz of lack of hand strength) for stitching, and I think she provides dust masks. Any questions, fire away.

Need help with arranging above-cabinet "clutter"!

Ha, I happen to have a "faux" plant on top of my cabinets. I decorate for myself and not for others, so if I like it it's good. I have a wooden cheese box that has a green metal band around it, in front of that are some tins. I have lots of tins up there, along with a ceramic set of cannisters, cruets, spice etc. that belonged to a great aunt. I also have a large ceramic goose, very very out of style but my husband bought it for me in Napa when we were first married so that baby is staying. Ya'll would probably die laughing and snicker about my terrible taste, but I love it. I say if it makes you feel good, it works.

Wonderful! Were all those projects yours? You really did a lot in that workshop. I bet it is the greatest one yet?

No, not all mine. My projects were: second image on second row - except cuz of a screw up on the red enameled heart it turned into the third image on last row. Also made the second image on third row. These are pendants. Haven't finished my ordering lists of supplies, and since I feel so guilty about working w/o housecleaning, I haven't gone to the workshop since I returned. It was the best trip since the one in 2007 - Riana's concrete sculptures. Had this class not filled, I was going just to hang out w/her and mosaic the things she made last year. I enjoyed the workshop so much I didn't take time out to work on those projects. Thanks, FLAG.

Oh Betty!!! It looks like an AMAZING class!!! What F.U.N.!!! Did you use any of that copper I sent you?, maybe it was too thin for this stuff? Man, there is gonna be some really neat things happening for your future projects!!! Cindy and I go to our glass fusing class next tuesday, and then will be playing with Cindy's brand new kiln!!!!

Oh, you KNOW how to make me jealous and envious - I still want a kiln, but not falling into another money pit. I DID take that roll of copper out, but decided it was too thin, and I was short on lbs for my bag. I saw a U-tube other day where someone doubled and folded edges of copper foil, so I'm gonna try to do that w/some of that roll. Don't worry - I'm GONNA use that roll. The guage of copper/brass we were instructed to bring was 24-26. I have ordered the book "Amulets and Talisman" for ideas. Gonna dig out the book you gave me too. AS SOON AS I GET THIS HOUSE DUSTED!!!!!!!!!!
