SD stayed in our home when we were away. She also takes our things, especially mine. I don't think she steals per se but rather has no boundaries and no concept of privacy.

I hide things when she visits and directly confront her when I know she touched my stuff, it helps somewhat.

Anyone who's a known "borrower", doesn't get to stay in my house unsupervised, whatever their relationship. I would not let my own child stay under those circumstances.

Does Citrus Seed Give fruit ? Plzzz Answer the Answer :)
Q
Comments (6)
Asrar: Your question does not have an easy answer. First, MOST citrus do grow 'true' from seed. By true, I mean they are essentially 'clones' of the parent plant. Most lemons do, grapefruits, oranges, mandarins do. But some DO NOT...such as Meyer lemon, pummelos, Minneola tangelo, Temple oranges, Clementine mandarins, and a few others. Don't quote me on which ones. You can do a search in this forum and find out. Malcolm Manners gave a list here once. Second point: Seedlings of many citrus have a very long juvenile period -- for example grapefruits require up to 10 to 14 years before they eventually put out the 'mature' wood that is capable of blooming and bearing fruit. By this time plants must get quite large (maybe over 14 feet high). Key limes, calamondins, and perhaps kumquats take much less time - perhaps 3 to 5 years from seed. Of course all this depends also on the growing conditions. Optimally, in the ground in Florida with great year-round weather - they take fewer years to bear. In a pot in the cold Northern US, they can take many more years - or maybe never. Also, many oranges and lemons for example are extremely thorny from seed. I mean we're talking 3-inch or longer thorns! Only the older mature growth tends to have shorter thorns. Because of this 'juvenility' problem (as well as root disease issues), many citrus (scions from mature wood) are grafted onto a hardy rootstock. This imparts not only a bit of hardiness but also disease resistance to the scion, and assures that you will get fruit in just a few years (vs the many, many years from seed). It also assures that the exact variety will be propagated in the cases where that particular variety won't grow true from seed. I'm hoping this helps you understand why it's not a simple answer to your question. This post was edited by dave_in_nova on Wed, Jun 25, 14 at 9:31

Questions asked, No-one to give a real answer

***Ok I think I have a better understanding of how it works now. From BillMac's explanation the part that cost $117.- retail from Napa probably actually cost $81- wholesale which is why the garage was charging me $162-, right? Yes I expect a courier fee to be a part of the total price as well. Kind of like a "wild west" pricing scheme where everyone's out for themselves though, still not very good for the end customer and a lot of opportunity for price gouging. I'll bet the price of parts vary widely from region to region across the country too. That same part would probably cost a third less in a rural area compared to an urban one, no? The other major issue I had was that even though he quoted me $220- for the job he had me sign a blank work order, I know how stupid of me, then charged me $260- with the price in dispute at the end which is why I questioned the pricing on the part. While the turn signal was fixed I felt the garage in question did shoddy work with the wiring harness left all hanging out and the dash panel not put back properly so it would fall on my feet while driving after I got the car back. The moon roof was opened and the rear seat belts were out of place so I even wondered if they took it for a joy ride or something. In the end I put the wiring and dash panel in place myself and haven't gone back to the garage. Thanks for all your input. Tom*** **** You're seeing more in that than I did. 1st, The shop charged him $40 more than he was told it would. Though you and I know that often occurs because unforeseeable needed parts or repairs are found after you dig in, that issue might have been avoided by either communicating what additional repairs were needed when found, or if none were needed, using the 'flat rate' guide for billing whether the guy doing the work beat it by a 1/2 hour or got burned by a 1/2 hour. Consistent billing for the same repair is the object of the game there. 2nd, He doesn't understand the concepts of whole sale, retail, jobber, invoice, or discount pricing. That was explained to him and though he still didn't like it, he seemed to get a bead on the idea and realize that's the way it is. 3rd, It sounds like whoever did the work was a little sloppy in the 'fit and finish' department. That's what got the guy looking closer at the rest of the car wondering what else they screwed up, most likely just then noticing things that existed before. I used to try to get whatever area I was working on to look like it would have when it rolled off the assembly line. I worked with a lot of guys who didn't. Had misc fasteners left over, didn't paint the replacement parts to match what came out, didn't route hoses or wires they way they were. Leave greasy hand prints on the hood, fender, steering wheel, etc. In short, wanting to move on to the next car the second they got the problem addressed and not concerned at all with putting the rest back the way it was or better. I'm sure my way took a little longer, but I'm also sure I avoided some of the hassles with customers like the original poster. I don't think the cost of the repair was out of line. Sounds like the poster wouldn't have either if this shop would have used just a bit more professionalism. Seemed like his issues were properly addressed in responses he received. jmo

Upper Denture - Is This Normal?
Q
Comments (3)
I know a few people too who have dentures and didn't got to that many visits! My mom has some... been years!! My dad, however, cannot wear dentures because his upper palate is not shaped properly. I think it's because his upper palate is too flat, which wouldn't allow proper "suction" of the denture or something like that. (I'd have to ask him to verify.)

Digital Cable Box
Q
Comments (3)
The truth is that most cable companies including comcast are moving away from analog and clear QAM signals. So even if your TV has ATSC tuner there are few or no unencrypted channels available. You will need a box to "decode" the encrypted digital signal. In my local area comcast offers a "free" (for 3 tv's) tuner that outputs a wretched analog via channel three signal over coax signal. Think back to VHS quality days. For about $10 - $15 per box per month you can get a HD box that outputs a variety of digital and HD signals. The only other option is called Cable Card, a cable card is a small card that allows the decryption of the cable co's signal. Few if any TV's now have cable card slots (unfortunate!). There are cable card devices out there and your cable co is required by law to support them. Some examples of cable card tuners are Tivo Premiere, Moxi DVR, Computer based cable card tuners (Silicon Dust, Ceton, and ATI). This option allows you to own the tuner and rent for small fee the cable card. The cable co. wants you to have a box on every tv, it gives them control and allows them to up-charge for HDTV. There are a few options for "sharing" boxes between tv's but none that are compelling nor do they work well. Some of the sat companies boxes are designed to be shared to multiple tv's.

I agree with Colleen. I once came home & my son that didn't live there was inside watching TV... fine, except he brought friends over that I didn't know. I don't like having strangers in my house so that was a boundary violation for me. If any of the kids... mine or not, were borrowers~ they can only be there when we are home. If they don't respect your home & things, they don't need to be there unsupervised.

"... this sk has his own home and job."

Why would there be a reason for the sk to be in your home when there is no one else there?

In my case my ss rummaged through my room and my jewlery was found in his possesion.

Speaking for myself, after my experience I would never allow that to happen again.

In our case SD had to stay in our area while we were gone. BM lives in our area as well, in fact in a walking distance nd logically SD would stay with her, but.... But both SDs refuse to stay at moms (BM and her BF are heavy drinkers, their house is very filthy, and appliances usually do not work or don't work well, BM starts fights etc), so it was either hotel or our house. SO can't say "no" to his kids...

thanks for all the honest responses. wishitwaseasy the reason ss wants to stay in our home is to bring a friend and play with our things such as boat, rtv, dirt bike, snowmobile etc. then wants to come in and use our facility like bar, kitchen, bathroom and whatever he wants. dh cannot say no and thinks it is fine.

There are very few people whom I would happily allow to stay in my home while we were not here. Most importantly they do not snoop and they respect others' privacy; if they did stumble across something personal (they were bleeding profusely and started rummaging through bathroom drawers to find a bandage), they would never mention what they had seen. They treat our possessions and home as if it were theirs - they clean up and take reasonable care if using something of ours. If something were to accidentally be damaged, they'd offer to pay to replace it, be it a boat or a fork that they accidentally stuck in the garbage disposal. We'd probably say no, of course, certainly to the fork, and certainly if were something really expensive that insurance would cover - but they'd have made the offer.

Someone who "borrowed" something and never returned it? Honestly, I'd be unhappy about such a person spending the night here even if I were home! I'd have everything that was meaningful and valuable to me (heirlooms and such, regardless of actual cost) put completely away somewhere. As for someone who "borrows" staying when we weren't here, it would get seriously ugly if DH were agreeing with that.

The toughest call, I think, is if one has an honest but ditzy relative who really wanted to stay - if the relative could be trusted but their friends, not necessarily so. It would be really awkward to say that you don't trust someone's friends - but I'd feel awkward before I'd allow my stuff to disappear!

Not only no but hell, no. SD used our home for sexual rendevous, not to mention stealing things from us and causing property damage. No way I'd let her stay there unsupervised.
