here's our dry bar. it connects the kitchen to formal dining room. this pic was taken before the outlet covers and wine glass holder were attached! the cabinets below have pullouts that hold all the alcohol and mixers. uppers hold all of our glassware and crystal. beverage fridge is a Kitchenaid. opposite the bar is our large walk-in pantry.

you might want to look at the kitchen designs on the Ikea website. They seem to "recess" alot of their pantry cabinets. The photos of the kitchens weren't working when I posted this. Also, if you go to the Siematic website and click on "our kitchens" and "Beaux Arts", it looks like a few of their cabinets and refrigerators are recessed as well. "That's where we have our meals at night and the only time we really communicate with each other. :):) :)" NHB, that's just sad! LOL!! We have an office with a desk, etc. and that's where we work and we also have files in there of things we want/need to keep. Computer, etc. is also in that room. Since it's just the two of us and no children's schedules to keep up with, a nice size calendar works for us. I keep one hanging on the inside of the pantry door. I also have a small basket in that area of my kitchen which holds a few pieces of mail, or some important something or other that we might need in the near future. Otherwise it's in the office. tina

My space was 7'8" x 6'10" before the cabinets and shelves went in. There is now a 39" corridor to walk through and work in. But, honestly, when I'm baking that's plenty and the appliances that are stored on one bank of shelves are just a pivot away from the counter. The narrow walls on each end have the door to the outside and the kitchen proper. I thought I put the drawer with my baking ingredients in the previous group but I didn't. Here it is: Originally that was wide drawers but I found it was easier on my back to have it modified so I could stand in front of a receded drawer and reach down to the drawer or the counter instead of having to reach over an extended drawer. 98% of everything I need is either in those dry goods drawers or in the cabinet above. Only the perishable stuff is in the kitchen in the fridge. There is also a conventional tall pantry cabinet next to the fridge for cooking meals. Can't remember if it was in any of the earlier pix but there's also a small bathroom sink we installed sideway so I could draw water while I'm baking without losing valuable counter space or do minor washup . We have a solar tube in there for generous light all day through and I can also open the door for more light, air and sense of openness.
