The two I bought this year are doing ok. But they didn't start out as "large and lush." One gets more sun than the other and is doing much better so I think they yours will do well. I agree that you should water, water, water. If it is a really hot day try not to get too much water on the leaves. That is when I notice that the edges of the leaves start to dry and crumble. (Happens to many of my tender plants.) I have some small buds on mine but are so excited to see them in their full glory! I bet yours will look great with all the yellow.

What else did you get? Did you need a steer loader thing to unload?

I bought some limelights a few years ago, too. Three beauties that walked off the property all by themselves. Maybe they've been hitching rides around the country looking for a good spot to settle. Lucky for them, as they would have a better life at your place!

I fell in love with the limelights at first sight and didn't pay much attention to the tag when I bought them, thinking they were going to be shade-loving like most hydrangeas. Later I found that they love sun and also get to be about 8'-10' shrubs!! Yikes. Tough to find a spot like that here for one moreless four. So they just sat in their pots waiting for me to come up with a home for them.

I had a fourth, younger one, from the Depot. He was left behind. I can't remember if it was last year or the one before, but I planted it in a spot that's nice and sunny for most of the day. It doesn't seem to wilt or fade in the heat or sun there (my others are sensitive). This year we've had so much rain so far, though.

I also like that they can be cut back, blooming on new wood, and am hoping its size can be contained that way. Not sure what's going to happen there.

Well, it looks very happy and is actually going to bloom this year! And I'm glad it will have its own show after my other fav is finished. I just love the cream and chartreuse coloring.

I need pictures! I really miss my hydrangeas at old house, assumed we had too much sun here. Now I've got one little rocky spot left to plant, on top of a boulder, full SW sun. Will limelight or some other hydrangea do OK here (where there is no mulch and I've just been throwing dirt on top of the boulders?)?

At least my $2 almost-dead roses are coming back! After losing all their leaves to black spot, I sprayed a couple of times a week apart (skipped this w/e), they are getting new growth! My healthy rose has tons of new red leaves too, hope I get a second flush this summer. People on Rose forum really helped me.

I had Limelight Hydrangeas when we lived up north and loved them. They got filtered morning sun and looked beautiful next to our Diablo Ninebark.

KK .. *LOL* Nope .. I didn't need the skidsteer to unload this time. :) Thanks so much for the info on the limelights! I think I'm going to try them in this area, since it's the best spot I have for them. Then I'll run a drip hose along the bed to keep them watered well, without soaking them down. I've read that they'll do fine in full sun as long as they're well watered, just that they won't stay in the lime green phase as long. I just bought some backbone type perennials to start a new bed, broadway lights daisies, happy returns daylilies, just stuff like that.

Squirrel .. that's awful someone stole your limelights. :( I'm glad your remaining plant is doing well. I unloaded the plants on the patio, before I went to bed I put them all up on the porch until this weekend when I can get them planted. I figured that if someone come up on the porch the dogs would pitch a fit.

Ajsmama .. I hope either Kelly or Squirrel can post some pics for you of their's. Mine just look like 3 ft tall green plants at the moment, although they kind of look like they might actually bud out some this year.

Ajsmama .. I snapped this for you. These are just babies, but they have already grown about 5 inches. Please excuse the hoses, I have a soaker hose on them at the moment .. we are at 101 F today. After it cools down I'm going to bury the soaker hose down a couple of inches so you can't see it. They're doing well, at first the sun fried a few leaves, but now they've settled in nicely and are growing like weeds.

Help if I included the pictures, huh? ;)

oooh pretty hydrangeas! I think I may need some of those next year.

Mine are just losing their lime. I think they were tinged with green for maybe two weeks. I love seeing them from the window : ) Even after all this rain the flowers still look great. Wish I still had those other three that walked ¡size>

Thanks for the pics. I still have that bare spot, but my grocery store salvage roses are leafing out nicely and actually have a couple of blossoms a piece on them. I planted an azalea (another $1 clearance at grocery store - they sell these plants for *nothing* once they're done blooming) on the side by the garage since I heard they have shallow roots (put it in a pot and cut away the front, so maybe the roots won't grow into our drainage pipe from the downspout). Think I could plant another azalea on top of the boulder?

OMG zipdee. You have more flowers than leaves. They must love that spot. (Nice looking mulch.) I snapped a few pics of my two plants. (More leaves and flowers.) One is more lime than white.

Beautiful garden, Kelly! Are those Japanese Painted Fern? Mine multiply quite a bit. They pop up here, there, and anywhere.

They live happily in full sun...in fact, I added one more this spring! Enjoy them~

Does intense heat effect these plants? I only planted mine in June, and it keeps blooming, but not branching out. And the blooms are rather small. However, we've had an unusually hot summer with temps over 100 many days which started early in the summer.

I noticed they're starting new growth down at the bottom of the plant, finally! I assume they'll get bushier next year?

What do you all feed your Hydrangeas? Mine are Endless Summer for Beginners. hee. Next year I plan to plant a whole row of them so I need to be prepared.

Kitchen Kelly...do you have more pics of your yard somewhere that I can look at? I've seen several pics of your lovely yard and I'd love to see more! What are pink diamond tree forms?

Hey squirrelheaven, Are you serious about your ferns? Mine have never volunteered. Everything else seems to. I love the JP ferns and wish they would reseed. It took them forever to get to a decent size.

oakleyoak, I think yours just need some time to get established. In MN, we have had a mild summer.

Hi lesmis, my yard is such a work in progress. I have spent this summer widening the garden area. I had to move over 200 brick edgers to widen everything. Now I need more mulch! Here is a pic where I moved the bricks and added mulch and plants:

Thanks so much for the new pictures! I love seeing yards that are so nicely pulled together since I'm moving on to the outside of my house now, even though the inside still isn't done! It's nice to see your purple cone flowers, I have some that I'm going to be moving from one bed to another so they'll have more room to multiply.

Your dogs are darling!! We have two herding dogs as well! It's not often that you see a tri colored collie, our BC is tri and so is our ES. Thanks for including them, they are the perfect compliment to those beautiful day lillies!

Kelly, your yard is so pretty, and you keep it all up so well. And the doggies are too cute : ) Yes, my JPs turn up everywhere. It's amazing. I don't get a big cluster of ferns, they just pop up in other scattered, haphazard places.
