I wonder if anyone has ever used a few drops in homemade insecticidal sprays for plants? (did not find it in the list) A question for grainlady or anyone with experience - I have this honey wholewheat oat banana bread recipe (to be made next week) that uses apple sauce instead of oil, I wonder if adding a teaspoon of coconut oil will help the bread last a week or more? I usually make banana bread and store in the refrigerator on the second day itself (that does affect the taste) in order to make it last a week or more(and I don't like it cold so need to defrost before having). When taking care of wood, oils tend to soak into it. I saw the twins on Antique's Roadshow talk about someone that used linseed oil on old furniture and the piece actually smelled like it. I think I would stick to what works best and do so sparingly, if at all. I think the best way is to wipe it down with a cloth with dusting spray and for antiques to keep your home humidified, especially in the winter or if you live in a southern climate where it is relatively dry all year.

Nicole --- We use two different brands of organic coconut oil -- Tropical Traditions Gold Label and Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I always order the Tropical Traditions directly from their website, and order the Nutiva from Amazon.com. I always put a tablespoon of it in my coffee, and I use coconut oil as a moisturizer. I also drink coconut milk, not dairy milk, and eat coconut milk ice cream and coconut milk yogurt. The "regular" coconut milk yogurt is "runnier" than dairy yogurt (and really creamy) but the coconut milk greek yogurt is thick and creamy like dairy greek yogurt.

On the oil pulling, one thing I once saw mentioned somewhere is that some people may want to consider how they are disposing of the oil. Since it solidifies in cooler temperatures, it could potentially cause a rather nasty clog if you are spitting it down the drain. Personally, I could not imagine swishing anything in my mouth for 20 minutes. Linelle, coconut oil has been a "thing" for a while and how one reacts to the nutrition/health claims probably depends on one's point of view. My take on it, is that I like the taste and I do strive for variety so coconut oil is just one of achieving variety. It is quite useful as a moisturizer, as many noted above but I think as far as all the other possible claims, there is not enough information yet to say one way or the other. I did laugh the other day when in Trader Joe's looking at all of the coconut oil that was liquid. A true sign of summer.
