Flush-Mount, Cast Iron, Apron Front Sink?
Comments (3)Hi Smoking Ponies, Thanks for bringing me back to Garden Web. I had planned to post an update about what I ended up doing, but of course got sidetracked. I could not find a cast iron, apron front sink that could be flush mounted. I can't remember exactly, but I think Kohler said that the sink wasn't "finished" on all sides. They recommended only mounting the Whitehaven undermount. So, I decided against the sink. I posed this follow up discussion about the Alfi Fireclay sinks: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0317094023838.html I ended up buying the Alfi AB511, and I absolutely love how it looks! We mounted it flush. I'm still nervous about the fireclay and am not sure how it will hold up, but so far, it's gorgeous and gets a lot of attention. Good luck! Let me know if you find what you're looking for! Lisa...See MoreBroken Kohler Cast Iron Sink
Comments (15)I had a similar situation. The only countertop I have is built over my undermount, Koehler farm sink, "Hawthorne." It's discontinued & they had no touch up kits. Mine was damaged because it sat on my garage floor for 2 years with water softener overflow, crap sitting in it, all kinds of stuff my STBX said didn't matter because it was enamel over cast iron. Well, cast iron rusts & up under the apron, I noticed it was well after it was installed. At the same time I noticed a kind of "slice" into the enamel in the bowl. It took a particular light to see it, but I could. They were actually wonderful. The only thing they could offer was to replace the sink because even with the horrible wear and tear it took due to OUR negligence, it shouldn't have been damaged. I can't afford to have my sink torn out, countertop ruined, just to put a new one in. I know I'm the only one who could see the slice, and the rust is underneath with a tiny bit on the not so evident corner. I told them to send it, though. So I have a brand new one sitting in my barn. At 150 lbs? Not changing anytime soon. How many people have TWO of their $1500 sinks! [LOL] I realize this doesn't help you at all, but I thought you might want to know they do try. Within their boundries, I guess. Good luck with your sink & contractors. It's heartbreaking to find something you just love is broken. Christine...See MoreKohler Iron tones , cast iron sink??
Comments (15)I have a white Irontones sink, undermounted. No scratches so far, I do have the Kohler grid in it. I had another Kohler cast iron sink in the kitchen before the reno, I love cast iron. I did consider a Silgranit, but couldn't find a white one to see in person, so I chickened out. The only picture I have handy is just after installation, before the strainer was even installed....See MoreWhitehaven cast iron apron sink: reviews?
Comments (9)I've only had mine for about four months. I love it. Cane sugar. I do have the grids, which I like because dirty dishes tend to sitfor a while at my house, sometimes overnight, on rare occaision 24 hours. With the grid I can rinse most of the yucky stuff out and clean the drain. I didnt think about it as 'fall protection' for my sink. I also have a SS Franke prep sink, and my old sinks have all been double bowl SS. I just will not dry my sinks with a towel to avoid waterspots. That is not going to happen at my house. So my SS sink always looks worse than the whitehaven. The Whitehaven just looks good all the time, with no effort other than a spray down of the edges if something splashed up (like emptying coffee out of pot). No water spots. I have some very heavy pans we wash in it. Several Le Creuset dutch ovens, and my latest addition, which I love except for its weight, a 14" Demeyere 7 layer SS fry pan. That thing is HEAVY! All those get hand washed in sink, not in dishwasher, the frypan sometimes three times a day! So far sink and surrounding marble countertop have survived just fine. I actually thought the contractors had damaged the sink while replacing the window above it. It was the only mark on the sink and I was not happy. With the marble and SS pans I have, I had gotten rid of all abrasive cleaners of any kind, so no one could use them accidentally on my counters. I finally decided to try and scrub out this mark on the sink with some barkeepers stuff. It came right off. Whatever it was is gone, all that worry and it just scrubbed away. So far, and it has only been four months, I am very very pleased with my Whitehaven sink....See MoreRelated Professionals
