I think these ones I make taste a lot like burgers, even my carnivore DH likes them. I have used soy beans, chick peas or pearl barley (I think the barley ones come closest to "burgeriness" :-) 1 cup soy beans/chick peas/pearl barley finely diced vegetables (carrot, turnip, parsnip etc) to taste 1 cup rolled oats 1 large onion, finely diced 4-6 tablespoons soy sauce 1 egg small amount flour Cook beans until soft, drain and mash (if using barley don't mash). Add vegetables, onion, oats, soy sauce and egg and enough flour to make it stick together. Form patties and shallow fry.

Hello! Thank you, Marilyn, for at least answering my post. I don't think this particular forum gets much traffic, because this was posted some time ago. Also, I am very interested in your mushroom/tofu burger recipe, but your e-mail address was not on your page. If you do not want to post it on the forum, can you cut and paste the recipe on the forum in reply? While I am not a partciular fan of Boca Burgers, I wanted something that was not as expensive. The Morningstar Grillers in my area are just pennies short of $4.00 a package. At almost $1.00 a patty, that's much more expensive than hamburger. They weren't cheap when Worthington produced Morningstar, but since Kellogg bought them, I can never seem to find them on sale at a reasonable price. Again, the tofu sounds interesting, but I have found unfortunately that while I like it a lot, I have to lace it with soy sauce (when making tofu spread), or fry it until it cannot be called healthy anymore. I have had it fried at a a good Chinese restaurant - I think they called it mandarin tofu - and you could tell it hadn't been boiled in fat because it wasn't puffy, just crispy. I have not been able to replicate this-I guess they used rice starch or something like that. If I could learn how they did it, it would make a decent burger-like patty. Happy gardening! Borealis

Hi ! This is one I like, and it's pretty simple to make, too :D ...just wish I could remember where I got it so I could send out proper kudos! Lentil Burgers - I can't believe it's not real meat! Ingredients: 1 cup dry lentils 1 onion 2 cloves garlic 1/2 tsp. chili power 1 tsp. liquid smoke 1 tablespoon tamari 1/2 pkg. tofu 1/2 cup wholewheat flour Directions: Wash and cover lentils 1/2" with water. Add chopped onion, garlic, chili powder. Cook till tender and add Tamari and liquid smoke. While lentils are cooking, in a blender, chop 1/2 pkg. tofu and add 1/2 cup wholewheat flour. When lentils are tender, mix with tofu/flour mixture. This should be real thick and easy to spoon onto a hot griddle in the shape of a burger. You may want to add 1 T. of Olive oil on the griddle. Cook on each side. Serves: 4 Preparation time: 1 hr
