Caesarstone backsplash regret- can it be removed?

Yesterday I had some beautiful Haze (very light gray) Caesarstone countertops installed. My mistake I see now was having matching 4 inch backsplash placed on top.
The installers/fabricators were excellent but I'm embarrassed to call them and ask. Does anyone know- is it possible to have the backsplash removed without damaging the countertops underneath. I think a silicone adhesive was used. Does the adhesive stain Caesarstone?
How hard would it be to have them come back and pry up the backsplash? I have subway glass tile I should've used but we were trying to be practical and not worry about grout stains. I had planned the tile to extend to the top of the backsplash but realize now that look is dated- want to get rid of the backsplash and have the tile come all the way down to the countertops.

Anyone with advice for me? Thank you!!

Removing the 4" back splash will probably not be an issue. There may be some damage to your dry wall, but that can be patched in prep. for the tile. The silicone on the counter top can be removed. I agree with Island, call your installer and have him remove the splash for you.

It's pretty clear what the decision is, but just wanted to beat a dead horse. Like the others, my GC did an OK tile job with the hall bath, so I let him do the backsplash. Biggest mistake of the whole remodel. Since it took me a few weeks to decide on it after the remodel, he moved on to other jobs, but he said he could fit my "two day job" in. Since he forgot the spacers whe he was set to begin, he used pennies (from my son's piggy bank no less). When he pulled them out it chipped a TON of my crackle glaze tiles. So those all had to be popped put. His cuts were horrible because he really didn't know how to cut the specialty tile, AND he cut my liner pieces when I specifically told him not to. Stopped him so I could re-order those pieces even though he said it wouldn't show with the grout. I saw lots of lippage issues along the way-some he fixed. Now I don't dare turn on my under cabinets lights because it looks SO bad. And did I mention this whole horrible process took 7 WEEKS?! He didn't even seal it. I just paid him to get out of my life. So, yeah, get a pro.

The backsplash will contrast nicely with your Pebble. I have just installed a marble backsplash with CS Piatra Grey and it works well, as the medium grey pulls out accents from the backsplash. I have a bit of bianco carrara in a ledge area and in a table. The island, however, is the same material as the perimeter. How big is your island? One thing to consider is remnants. I think there is one place in San Jose and Planet Granite (with an online search engine) out in Sac that are slabyards that specialize in remnants. Some of the prefab suppliers also sell island sized pieces, with and without a finished edges.

Ok, I follow what you mean now, brickeyee. However, I don't' believe this is an issue with Corian. After the tile is done, I had already planned to have the fabricator refinish the Corian countertop to remove scratches, etc. Corian is pretty impervious to this type of thing and I don't believe sunlight affects it like it might Formica. Also, if I do end up choosing to remove the Corian backsplash, the tile that would replace it would be very close in thickness (most travertine is close to same thickness as my backsplash)so I would be safe there as well. If it wasn't for some of the idiosyncrasies of my Corian backsplash install, I don't think I would run into these issues if I decided to remove it.

cigi, in our last house the previous owner installed tumbled marble in a mauvish tone which IMO looked awful with the St Cecilia granite. Even though the tile was expensive, I tore them off and left the 4" granite backsplash, patched and painted the rest of the wall. The sink was the only working area as the cooktop was on the island. No problem with water as I used BM Aura, but Pittsburgh Paint's Manor Hall Timeless is just as good with a more flat look and lifetime warranty. I'm pondering the issue for my current redo. In various houses I've had paint, wallpaper, white tile with abalone inserts, plain white tile. Right now I'm weighing white tile with a beautiful insert, just paint with no granite backsplash since this area has only a counter but no cooking/wet functions, paint with granite backsplash, or a simple glass tile backsplash with listello over it a la Chinchette. I'm attaching a photo from Chinchette's beautiful kitchen (hope she doesn't mind seeing hers cited as a great example) which shows the last option. In any event, I echo others' advice to not worry about that decision immediately unless you absolutely love a certain look. Just use good paint. Here is a link that might be useful:

Believe me, you will not be the first person to call the installer and ask for something to be changed. I am sure he has heard much more unusual requests.

Better to swallow your pride and call the installer. This won't be the first or last time this has happened. Way better than living with something you'll always regret. Any potential drywall damage is easily remedied.

Thanks so much everyone for your reply. I feel so much better knowing it can be removed. We have an older house with plaster walls- the laminate backsplash that was there before didn't damage the walls so hopefully that won't be an issue.
How will they get it up? By inserting a knife under it? So you don't think there will be scratches or stains on the countertops?

Our last house came with a 4" granite backsplash. We removed that to put in a tile backsplash. There was no damage to the granite counters, but we did have some patching to do to the drywall. I just used a pry bar at the top edge to tip it away from the wall. The silicone on the bottom edge wasn't an issue at all.

You can remove it. You might just have to do some patching.

We just removed all of the tiles on our fireplace and it took a great deal of the drywall with it. We just cut out some drywall and placed in the spots that needed it and then bought those patches they sell at Home Depot or Lowes. You can just throw those up and then put a spackle type product on top and then you can add the backsplash. My boyfriend and I did it all in a matter of hours. Not too terrible.

I wanted to post a follow up. The service mgr said that there would be no problem removing the backsplash- the countertops will be cleaned with denatured alcohol to remove the adhesive and there should be no staining.
He said backsplash with tile was like wearing a belt with suspenders! Haha- so true!!

Selent, so glad that there was an easy fix for you to remove the Caesarstone backsplash so you can have the tile backsplash go to the counters. We would love pictures when you finish the backsplash.
