Adding Glass Panels to Kitchen Cabinets?
Comments (2)If you want something more than you can do yourself (like muntins, for example), I've seen kitchens with arched panels something like yours where they got glass doors from maplecraftUSA or one of the other custom door companies (advantage, Scherrs) that looked like they were made for the kitchen, but I think it's a lot easier to make this work with painted finishes or when you can just order the doors unstained because you're finishing everything yourself. No idea of how good they'd be at matching an existing finish....See MoreAdding contrasting cabinets to existing kitchen - need help/ideas
Comments (7)I'm not sure of exactly where you plan on putting the additional cabinets. If it's on that wall across from the DW and next to the door, you won't have clearance for traffic at all. For the fridge, the cabinet that is over the fridge looks to be a 36" or 39" cabinet, which is appropriate for a 36" (standard) sized fridge. Your fridge looks to be a 30" sized one, and this would leave you (and any future owners) without the option of getting a standard sized fridge in that location. Are you sure you want to imprison yourself to that small a size fridge forever? And, to get a deep cabinet and (very) small broom closet there, you'd need to increase the soffit depth, and go right up to the molding on the door frame. That would leave you with about a 6" exterior sized broom closet (with interior dimensions of about4 1/2" if you chose FRAMELESS cabinets only), because you would need a bit of spacer between it and the fridge. That would be a LOT of money spent on very little gain of usable space. Please post an overhead scale schematic so that we can look at the total layout of the kitchen and indicate exactly where you are talking about putting the desk area. This will help others to help you and also help you to visualize the changes you are proposing and the consequences....See MoreHas anyone used Barker Cabinet Doors?
Comments (27)I've got to speak up for Scherr's Custom RTA Cabinets. They are a custom cabinet maker that does RTA cabinets. You get exactly what you want. They assemble as much or as little as you require. I had them assemble my drawer boxes and I did everything else. They have more than three finishes. I had a great experience with them. I will use them again. Scherr's cabinets are made in North Dakota. Leon Scherr has been in business for at least 25 years. They were cost competitive and had really good customer service. You could actually talk to someone. They helped you answer questions and solve problems. That is why I selected them over Barker's. Scherr's does have a rather clunky, old fashioned website. You fill out a form with your requirements and send them a rendering of your plan including measurements. They put it into a CAD and cost it out for you. I think one of the reasons more folks at GW tend to use Barker's is because of Barker's online ordering system. While it's sort of efficient, many people just don't want to talk to anyone and would rather work up an order to see the price. You actually have to talk to someone about your order at Scherr's. I guess people are shy about it. It's a great product and nice group of people....See MoreHas anyone used the Torhamn cabinet fronts from Ikea?
Comments (9)I have seen them in person, but at the time I was paying more attention to the function of the cabinets and their interior fittings. I agree that the chicken wire look of the glass cabinets is a bit unattractive, but I can see one benefit is that it makes it easier to arrange the shelves -- you don't have to match the shelves to the glass rails. The doors themselves do seem well made....I wonder if painting them would be possible, and maybe cheaper than buying something from Semihandmade ... It does seem a shame that there's not a plain wood shaker. Anyway, I'm familiar with the many companies offering fronts to Ikea cabinets, I was just interested in seeing real life pictures of THIS style. :) I put "Torhamn" in Instagram and came up with a handful of pictures from a couple. who have used that style in their kitchen renovation. It looks really nice! It works because they have very few uppers and their kitchen has beautiful light. The pattern doesn't seem overwhelming at all....See Morenik211
