Thanks annettacm, for your response. Yes, it would keep the dust from accumulating. I came across your before and after pictures last night, and your floor plan looks very similar to mine. I love how you opened up the dining room and incorporate all the space. Hmmmm (I can't go there - I told my DH I would not move any walls!) Back to my crown molding questions. I want to be sure that the different heights look in proportion, so I think I just need to be careful that the trim extension/filler on the 48" doesn't get too big/tall (the KD is telling me 2-3"). Does anyone think the heights look out of proportion if 48" cabs have that 2-3" filler trim piece and the 42" cabs don't? It adds expense and I'd rather save some dollars there if it would look fine and in proporation without. Thanks everyone!

Ok, I must be confused then where these under cabinet Wiremold boxes draw their power from. I doubt anything illegal is present. More likely a kitchen lights on one, wire mold on another. I elected to replace wall receptacles for Plugmold but got Wiremold. I am seeking a lower profile unit. Here are a few products and I'm wondering if any one has a less costly alternative. Obviously that's why Wiremold was done: $$$ but nice http://www.tasklighting.com/application-photos/angle-power-strip/10088846 Recent electrician's discussion: http://forums.mikeholt.com/showthread.php?t=151094 Very cost effective, nicer than an outlet box, but vertical height is 1.5" so will show even more: http://yblighting.com/hubbell-ru100ss-netselect-under-cabinet-counter-slim-fit-box-ss.html Wish I could do recessed at point where romex comes out, but seem to recall thats against code. Flush look. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-15-Amp-1-Gang-Recessed-Duplex-Power-Outlet-White-R52-00689-00W/202066691#.Uc8JGByp0TN . Thanks for your response, I will ask about your point but suspect I got the circuitry wrong in my head not the electrician. Here is a link that might be useful: GW:I was expecting plug mold....???? Is this

I am in the middle of a whole house reno. I wanted to paint the kitchen cabinets and the attached crown gray, but the kitchen opens to the living room, which will have white box paneling and also white crown like the rest of the house. There is a corner where the two rooms meet (a recessed bar niche between the living/kitchen. I don't love the idea of two colors of painted crown meeting up, is there a good way to do this? Or does anyone have a picture of a similar situation? I have seen stained cabs/meeting with painted and that looks ok but two different paints seems like a bad idea. I can't seem to find any photos of this situation. Kitchen is the the right, bar niche to the left with the pretty white pipe running through it, living to the far left. (Dining is through the cased opening with window) My current thought is to do the bar area cab/crown white and extend the white over the tiny bit of wall between that and the kitchen. Then the gray kitchen cabs would start on that wall to the left of the wires. Thank you!

@brensmum, my room is 13'x15.5' I'm leaning towards having my curtains go only around the window (extending 12-18" past each side) rather than the whole room since the molding prevents the curtains from reaching the very edge of the wall (5" away) and also I think the off-centered window will look weird, creating an un-symetrical effect either in curtain width or spacing from the windows.
