Bitter Creek Candle Supply (http://www.candlesupply.com/) offers good things for newbies.. they sell sample packs of wicks, and wax in 10-11 lb slabs, and their shipping is pretty good.. and the prices are reasonable I've tried some of their fragrance oils and they are pretty good, if you like B&B Work type fragrances then it's TonyÂs Fragrance Oils hands down, they are a little higher on some things but they ship their oils in Boston Rounds not plastic! Hi Terri, Thanks for the reply. I am living in NE Mississippi. Born and raised in N.H. I have a candle Kit coming as I was not sure How to start. Wax I like soy, jars kinda traditional Def. Think Yankee.(being that I am one at heart still) I have found a soy from Wal Mart that stays fragent to the end but they are so hard to find.This is why I wanted to start making my own. I am retired and have plenty of time to spend on them. Have always been a crafty person but have never done candles. I am really tired of buying candles and no smell!!!

Crayons are fine for colorant. I advise against the glitter, because I do not know if is is safe, when exposed to heat & flame. As for "food essence", I have no idea what that is. There are fragrance oils, made specifically for candles. They should be safe & work the best.
