Aaaaargh! Cabs match interior window trim?

My windows are Andersen 400. They're white on the inside trim (Anderson's White) and there are two Andersen patio doors going off the kitchen in two separate locations that are the same interior color as the window trim. They're already installed so I can't change it to primed, and I like that white anyway.

I want to paint all the trim in the house the same color as the Andersen white, which seems smart until I go to pick a paint color for the cabinets. Then the Andersen White is not the right white for the cabinets but what I like for the cabinets is too close to the window/trim color to use, I think.

I am befuddled and frustrated and need HELP from the excellent gardenweb advisors! What to do???

You are trying to hard to match your whites.

The Andersen white ( I have the 400s in my house) is a grayish white. If you like it then paint your trim that color. If you don't then pick a different color.

I picked SW Creamy. Then my cabinets are a different white. A Woodmode Vintage color that is different than either of those whites.

If you want everything to match, it's ok too. But, don't think that it has to.

Trying to match whites is a very difficult proposition and not always the best to do. It's amazing how layering whites actually adds interest and contrast, which you actually need.

We have divinity white cabinets from Medallion, and our trim is a creamy white, very similar, but not perfect. The white subways are crackled and bevelled, they add dimension, depth and a bit of shine.

Have fun with it and chose the whites that suit you eye and work well together, whether they are on the grey side or creamy side, you'll need to decide.

bethv--the sample shown is mahogany & cherry. The oak keeps going orange instead of red. I also tried walnut & cherry & "singles" of each. marybeth1--the doors are different wood shades as the PO was a DIY who seemed to grab whatever stain as he moved through his projects. The adjacent FR has dark cherry paneling & a slightly lighter shades on the mantel & french doors. The french doors in the DR are painted and I'll try to strip them down eventually, when the kitchen cabinets leave that room & move to the kitchen!

You already did the inside, yes? The inside trim, while you may love Craftsman style, is at odds with the feeling of the house. Just a simpler, palin and beefier trim to the exterior. Craftsman, is SO obviously a trim style, it is best where it makes sense.......and the doors are particularly telling. Some styles work anywhere. A single recessed panel, a two panel at most. Neither screams any specific style. Craftsman is another story, altogether. In your home? It's the pics below. Fits.....and maybe too much a style "stretch". Nobody would suggest that a sixties or seventies home must retain slab doors and ranch molding. But you don't want a gigantic "surprise" , either. You can't take a frosted San Francisco Victorian, and be anything but shocked to find it stripped of all trim inside, anymore than a farmhouse would be laden with gooey frosting INSIDE. For those expensive re trimming projects? Consider the feel. Carefully. : )

@jlmollwitz, we're using Sherman Williams' White Dove (the irony of which is that, after digging out the paint chips for the colors that we used the last time we had our house painted over twenty years ago, I've discovered it's the color that's already on all of my trim!)

That terra color probably makes sense on the exterior but doesn't seem to be a color you have on the interior. I would lean towards painting the door jambs white to match the casings and stain the doors themselves to match the floors.

My cabs, trim, walls and backsplash are all different whites. I love that they don't match (except my b/s is trying really hard). My old stove and DW are extremely white, but I'm working on that. :)

Our vinyl windows and fiberglass/vinyl french doors are factory white but the trim around them and our fireplace built ins are color matched to divinity white of the Medallion cabinets. If you like the white of your windows you can color match it is not necessary to match.
