Anyone use Farrow and Ball paint on their cabinets?
Comments (11)I haven't sprayed FandB. But, I did add water to fpe paint to spray. I called and they told me that I should add it to their paint. I didn't get any bubbles in my paint at all. They suggest it for spraying, but not for hand painting. The higher levels of paint are a different animal than mass brands. They paint differently and act differently than normal paint. I might be wrong. But, that is how I felt when I started using the expensive good stuff. I am sure that you can add water to the paint. But, I don't think that there would be any need. I didn't get any bubbles in my paint that I hand painted in FandB. I wonder if he added too much water. My next question is he using a brush? Not one of those hot dog roller things? When I hand painted our boxes in the FPE. I noticed that I got bubbles/stipple marks in the paint that I hot dogged. I quickly hot dogged it to get the paint on and then went over in a paint brush afterwards. That seemed to work good. I ended up switching over to all hand brushing. Another thing is that some painters are so into their paint that they don't give anything else a chance. They know the ins and outs of their particular brand and somehow can't figure out how to use anything different. I'm not saying that your painter is doing that. But, if you had to really convince him to use this paint, it might be something to think about. I don't know. I can't imagine having to add water to hand paint to FandB. You might get a hold of a sample pot or one of the gallons you handed over to see how it reacts to a paint brush. Maybe it's some sort of quality control problem. Ask him to try another gallon of it. Maybe it was just that particular can. Their QC is super rigid. so, I'd be surprised. But, you never know. Good luck!...See MoreFarrow&Ball on cabinets? or factory finish?
Comments (3)While I don't have F&B on my Crownpoint cabinets (I used Fine Paints of Europe) I did paint several bookcases, and two dining room corner cupboards, as well as all doors, windows, and trim in F&B's "Pointing" in the Eggshell finish. You do realize that the Estate Emulsion is almost completely flat right? I have it in several places in my home and it has no sheen. The Modern emulsion has a subtle sheen, and the eggshell also is quite subtle in the sheen department. In any case, F&B is terrific paint, and highly durable. Even the Estate Emulsion on my walls is scrubbable and cleans beautifully. But if I'm not mistaken, F&B recommends the use of Estate Emulsion only for wall board. Suggest you go to the website and then confirm with Crownpoint. After almost three years, I've had no need to touch up the FPE on my kitchen cabinets. But I'm happy to know I can if I need to. I have a friend who did the factory finish, uses her kitchen hard, and now has to live with some dings because she can't refinish....See MoreFarrow and Ball paint suggestions for walls
Comments (93)I get what you're saying about needing some oomph on the walls in your breakfast area. I would prime over the copper brown with white to give yourself a clean slate to begin with. Any white-ish colour is going to get lost when you have such a dominant colour that a) you're used to and b) drowns out any sample board you put up. Speaking of BM, I saw a LR on Remodelista about a year ago that had walls in Overcast and trim in White Chocolate. I'm not sure how it'll play with your floors but I think it's a sensational combination for your wainscoting and walls. It has a presence while still light and ethereal. Comments (4)As LWO says, the cabinet makers are using BM or SW paint colors, but it's not those guys's paint. So you will need to find a shop who could do a totally custom color and attempt to match. Or find an acceptable match in the big companies lines -- BM Shoreline is one suggestion. I think you are unlikely to get a truly custom color application in one of those volume shops, though, at least not without a decent setup fee. Of course, people do paint their cabinets with regular old latex paint so I don't see why you couldn't find someone to do it. But yeah, probably a separate job, at which point.... maybe a full redo starts to make sense? Here's a blog post with Semihandmade + F&B paint https://www.remodelista.com/posts/ikea-upgrade-a-kitchen-remodel-with-cabinet-fronts-from-semihandmade-of-la/ If you're set on Farrow and Ball they are supposed to have good customer service, why not reach out and see if they have any info. Good luck!...See Moregreenlola
